This is an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, high calibre pharmacist looking to further advance their career and develop leadership, clinical, and prescribing skills within the advancing rheumatology and interstitial lung disease (ILD) services at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will need to be flexible and organised, be able to align their values with those of the organisation, work well within a team, and have a ‘can do’ positive attitude.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior pharmacist to make a difference and ensure the best outcomes for our rheumatology and ILD patients. The post holder will work to ensure the continued provision and development of high quality, comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to patients, as well as influence senior managers and clinicians within the Rheumatology and Respiratory Directorates. We will provide the successful candidate with a comprehensive induction covering all aspects of Trust work, support from senior pharmacy staff, and an environment to develop further.
Main duties of the job
1. Act as a Team Lead Pharmacist for Rheumatology and ILD services including independent prescribing services and attendance at joint outpatient clinics and ward rounds.
2. Manage and lead the pharmacy rheumatology and ILD teams within the organisation and across interface boundaries.
3. Work as an expert pharmacist for rheumatology and ILD services, contributing to advanced decision making within multi-disciplinary teams at St George’s Hospital and jointly with wider regional groups.
4. Manage and implement services designed to improve the pharmaceutical care to patients and extend the boundaries of clinical practice.
5. Support the growing rheumatology team which already acts as a highly specialist hub for NHSE services for the wider Surrey and London regions.
6. Support the advancing ILD antifibrotic service which will be a centre of expertise for the wider London region.
7. Identify and support the facilitation of CIPs within the relevant directorate and participate in financial reporting and drug budget management.
8. Progress service improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines.
9. Participate in service metric collection, clinical audit, research, risk management, and clinical guideline development.
Person specification
Qualifications
* B. Pharm/ M. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or equivalent
* Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in either Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
* Registered as Independent Non-medical Prescriber
* Other postgraduate qualifications relevant to pharmacy practice
* Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MRPharmS)
* Formal management training
* Diploma and trainee pharmacists tutor accreditation
* Member of the rheumatology pharmacist UK network (RPUK)
Experience
* Substantial post-registration experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner to include some experience managing patients in a relevant speciality
* Experience in supporting directorate activity, including drug expenditure reporting, formulary management, DTC applications
* Experience of working within a role involving multidisciplinary communication
* Experience in delivering training and education at undergraduate and postgraduate level
* Experience of consultant-led ward rounds
* Negotiations with health commissioners regarding access to drugs/high cost drugs via approved pathways.
* Demonstrable experience of coordinating and leading on clinical audit
* Experience of implementing national policies or initiatives, e.g. NICE
* Experience in Rheumatology and ILD care
* Experience of clinical research evidenced by abstract/full publications
* Experience as a designated prescribing practitioner and clinical supervisor
* Development of compassionate access pathways and individual funding requests
Skills
* Ability to prioritise and plan work effectively alone and for a team including the ability to delegate appropriately
* Ability to think strategically
* Ability to work positively and calmly under pressure
* Ability to critically analyse and apply research to the clinical setting
Knowledge
* Advanced knowledge of therapeutics and pharmacology with a record of successful application in current post

* Familiarity with CMM (JAC) computer system
* Experience of using an electronic patient record system
