We are currently seeking a skilled Electrician to join the dynamic team at Culham, working with cutting-edge technology in the Nuclear Fusion Energy sector.
The Role:
As an Electrician at UKAEA, you will play a crucial role in the ongoing electrical installation and maintenance delivery across the Culham site. Your responsibilities will span a wide range of electrical work in both industrial and commercial environments. This includes installation, commissioning, fault-finding, maintenance, and repair, all in accordance with current legislation and codes of practice. The majority of your work will take place indoors within labs and workshops, contributing to the advancement of nuclear fusion energy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Take responsibility for the installation phase of projects, ensuring Safe Systems of Work are followed, working to a plan, being flexible, and adhering to timescales.
2. Install indoor and outdoor electrical distribution equipment in compliance with current regulations and local standards.
3. Undertake the construction, wiring, and commissioning of electrical control cubicles.
4. Perform testing, commissioning, and fault-finding tasks on various electrical control and distribution equipment.
5. Provide supervision and guidance to less experienced electricians and electrical apprentices.
6. Collaborate on various projects with diverse teams across the site, prioritizing daily tasks and allocating work to team members according to the appropriate work plan for each project.
7. Maintain high standards of safety at all times and comply with safety procedures.
Essential and Desirable Skills:
1. Electrical craft apprenticeship.
2. City and Guilds 2357 (AM3), or equivalent, updated to BS 7671: 18th edition.
3. City and Guilds 2395 (inspection and testing) or equivalent.
4. Demonstrated ability to work safely in accordance with a written safe system of work (WSSOW).
5. Previous work experience in an industrial/commercial environment.
6. Knowledge of large distribution networks is desirable.
7. Supervisory experience is a plus.
8. Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
9. Problem-solving abilities.
10. Ability to prioritize and balance workload effectively.
Working Hours:
Standard 7.5 hours per day.
Start/finish times: 7:45 - 16:00 with 45 mins for lunch or 08:00 - 16:15.
Overtime work is possible but not guaranteed, with a standard hourly rate on weekdays, time and a half on Saturdays, and double on Sundays (needs to be agreed in advance).
