Job Purpose:
The Project Design Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining and optimising the technical design documentation process, ensuring seamless design transitions from concept to manufacturing and guide compliance with relevant standards.
The role is ideally suited to a detail-oriented and experienced mechanical engineer who excels in influencing stakeholders and is capable of providing leadership from both technical and regulatory perspectives.
Main Duties:
Technical Documentation Management:
* Manage the release and maintenance of comprehensive design technical documentation for new and existing products.
* Ensure clarity, accuracy and accessibility of documentation to support efficient product lifecycle management.
Design Change Ownership:
* Own and streamline the design change process.
* Work collaboratively with the Head of Engineering to optimise and refine change management activities for effective resource utilisation.
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA):
* Lead detailed FMEA for product and component failures.
* Collaborate with cross-functional design teams to develop innovative solutions and proactive risk mitigation strategies.
Process Implementation and Alignment:
* Oversee the implementation and roll-out of key design processes aligned with ITW innovation practices.
* Champion adherence to established project gate processes and ensure rigorous compliance throughout product development phases.
Design Transfer Management:
* Lead and manage the design transfer to production engineering, ensuring all necessary steps are completed for effective and risk-mitigated manufacturing readiness.
Technical Compliance:
* Take full responsibility for maintaining product Technical Files.
* Ensure continuous compliance with applicable industry standards, regulations and internal guidelines.
Additional Duties:
* Explore innovative approaches to enhance communication with manufacturing suppliers through advanced 3D CAD resources, optimising clarity and efficiency in manufacturing processes Key Skills and Qualifications:
* Degree qualified in Mechanical, Product or Design Engineering, or equivalent.
* Proven experience in managing design documentation and technical compliance.
* Proficiency with 3D CAD software and familiarity with modern CAD-based communication methodologies.
* Strong understanding of engineering change processes and product lifecycle management.
* Excellent analytical skills, especially in conducting and interpreting FMEA.
* Effective communicator with proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.
* Detail-oriented, proactive and committed to continuous improvement.
Reporting Structure:
* The role reports directly to the Technical Director.
* Regular collaboration with design, production, quality and procurement teams.

Standard working hours 35 per week:
* Monday to Thursday 09:00 – 17:00 & Friday 09:00 – 14:00.
* Start times can be adjusted to suit travel needs - Earliest start time 08:00am & latest Start time 09:30am.
