INSTRUMENT COORDINATOR & CSSD TECHNICIAN ADVERT - Reference Surgery Centre
We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Instrument Coordinator & CSSD Technician to join the team at OneWelbeck Surgery Centre in Central London, a facility offering a new perspective on day surgery in the U.K. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with leading specialists across multiple specialities as we embark on an exciting journey that offers huge personal and professional opportunities for all involved. Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area (e.g., shelves, counters, equipment)
2. Ensures clean and dirty workspaces are clearly identified and separated
3. Knowledgeable of and maintains strict compliance to sterilisation policies and procedures
4. Reprocesses each item according to industry standards and manufacturer’s instructions for use, including but not limited to decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilisation
5. Ensures only items designated by manufacturer and approved for re-sterilisation and multiple patient use are processed
6. Inspects instruments under magnification for damage and defects; lubricates items (as required)
7. Ensures all equipment and instrumentation is in good working condition prior to reprocessing
8. Sorts and arranges items into proper trays as defined by facility
9. Wraps trays and individual items according to manufacturer’s instructions for use
10. Properly mixes cleaning solutions per manufacturer’s instructions for use
11. Accurately labels each item per facility policy
12. Correctly operates sterilisers, ultrasonic washer, and other processing equipment per established protocols, operational instructions, and facility policies
13. Performs and documents required biological/chemical monitoring tests on all sterilisers according to manufacturer’s instructions and established policy/procedure
14. Understands the appropriate response required for a failed Air Removal Test, Sterilisation cycle and/or Biological, or Chemical indicator
15. Ensures contaminated instruments are transported to decontamination room in closed containers marked as biohazardous
16. Maintains inventory levels and accurate records
17. Checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilised items; replaces items as necessary
18. Places items in correct location
19. Maintains adequate inventory of all supplies for the sterile processing area
20. Maintains/updates the instrument tray inventory list
21. Accurately documents count of instruments loaned/returned to outside sources
22. Moves and handles trays and items of various weights and sizes
23. Maintains accurate records and keeps documentation up to date
24. Disposes of contaminated waste in accordance with hospital policy
25. Regularly checks that our instruments are in good working order and all faults are reported and take action to rectify problems and escalate issues where necessary
26. Coordinates and communicates with nurses, materials and/or relevant persons in loaning, borrowing, lending and returning instruments and equipment when needed
27. Coordinates with theatre team in a timely manner to ensure the adequacy of instrumentation for the surgical cases
28. Works as an active member of the theatre team and maintains good working relationships
29. Attends required education/training
30. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Profile:
1. A minimum of 1 year experience in a theatre/CSSD setting (essential)
2. Current BLS certification (essential)
3. Experience in providing safe and effective intraoperative service in various specialities (desirable)
