About Crown: As the world leader in metal packaging technology, Crown designs and manufactures a wide range of innovative and sustainable metal packaging solutions. Our customers are some of the world’s largest and most-respected companies. About This Opportunity : Deployment of Crown in-house built Manufacturing Execution System to Crown factories globally, from surveying the factory and building a scope of work, to identify missing data / hardware, to coding of the PLCs, right through to the configuration of the website, and validating the data. Responsible for the maintenance of the system – working with factories across the world (European business, American business & Asia/Pacific), to fault find issues with the data, whether it’s a faulty sensor, or a typo in the website configuration. Work with the factories to identify improvement opportunities for the system, researching possible solutions, and working with the software developers to implement them. Use the data to generate conclusions and create actionable insights. Collaborate with the other members of the Digital Team to ensure successful development/implementation of CT applications and improvements. Main Responsibilities: Determining the communications route for transfer of data between machine and line control PLCs to MES systems / SCADA systems. Implementing the required PLC program and hardware changes in conjunction with plant electrical teams according to approved plans. Validation of data collected from PLC and server. Responsible for plant surveys and detailed design proposals that establish the scope of work required in each plant for installing MES Production Order Control. Design activities will involve: Interfacing with instrumentation and sensors specified for machine and process control. Data capture and validation. Designing and implementing PLC networks. Programming a range of PLCs including Allen Bradley, Siemens and Omron. Gather feedback and analyse current usage of CT applications to promote ideas for systems improvements. Collaborate in the development of new ideas/improvements for the Businesses. Manage/coordinate activities/projects Maintain effective communication with Crown Operations, stakeholders, team members & colleagues. Promote Safety and Company values Essential Qualifications, Skills And Experience: Degree level or equivalent, electrical and control engineering or closely related discipline is preferred. Previous experience in the automation / MES / SCADA systems for machines in factories Proven ability in the design and commissioning of control and electrical systems for machines and high speed production lines Working knowledge and an understanding of electrical schematics, PLC logics & HMI designs Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC programming – editing PLC programs to gather data from the machines Knowledge communication protocols – how to gather data from different systems (PLCs, IoT sensors, etc.) using different methods of communication protocol (Modbus, OPC UA etc.) Knowledge of networking - how the data flows from the PLC, through switches, to be stored on a server database (SQL, Mongo DB). Understanding of factories and general factory equipment automation and instrumentation – sensors, meters, motors etc. Project management experience –interacting with multiple parties (plant, IT, corporate, commissioning engineers, continuous improvement teams, suppliers etc.), keeping stakeholders informed, developing schedules. Desirable Education, Experience, Skills: Knowledge of data analytics – how to present data to that it is useful to the user (e.g. Microsoft Excel, PowerBI). Experience of the design process from specification through to implementation and final validation Knowledge of MES systems – how the data will flow from the PLC to the website Familiarity with industrial sensors, instrumentation and control Ability to see through the data and analyse it to find conclusions Build systems to transform raw data into actionable business insights Proven ability to work effectively within a technical team Promotes and upholds exemplary safe working practices at all times What Crown Offers You The opportunity to build a career in a multi-cultural environment To be rewarded fairly and promoted based on merit and performance Professional and personal development through training and work experiences Strong engagement and commitment to the safety of our employees Join us and become part of an international team of professionals who are passionate about sustainable packaging Working Together Accessibility, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion are key features of Crown’s culture of Working Together.
