An incredibly exciting opportunity has presented itself, which will see the successful candidate taking on a key role within an innovative organisation focused on Light Rail. This role will suit passionate professionals with creative ideas on how to progress the industry!
Your primary role will be to lead the development of the Engineering & Programmes function. Key duties and responsibilities will include:
1. Seeking out collaborative R&D opportunities that align with strategic objectives, identifying and recruiting industry and academic partners and developing winning bids.
2. Contributing to innovative business-led collaborative R&D project bids that span wider themes of activity.
3. Developing commercial project / consultancy proposals in response to identified industry needs.
4. Overseeing the Very Light Rail testing and prototype build programmes.
5. Developing and launching membership and facility hire operational models.
6. Overseeing the successful delivery of technical projects secured through collaborative bids / commercial proposals and of facility / equipment hire orders.
7. Working closely with the Council Procurement team to support the purchase and installation of specialist equipment required for the laboratories.
8. Continuing to develop partnerships with identified spoke organisations.
9. Creating a VLR technology roadmap.
10. Building a team in line with planned growth outlined in the 5-year strategic plan, including immediate line management of the Test Track Manager.
11. Supporting the development of annual business plans to include performance targets, in line with the 5-year strategic plan.
12. Ensuring that all work undertaken is in support of strategic objectives and in line with annual business plans.
13. Ensuring that all work undertaken is in accordance with the terms of the Collaboration Agreement with existing VLR projects, schemes, and supporters (WMG, CCC, DMBC, TfWM).
Essential criteria for the role;
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering
Evidence of continued learning / professional development
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in an industrial setting.
Track record of writing (and winning) collaborative bids for public funding
Experience of writing commercial business proposals
Experience of developing annual business plans / managing budgets and expenditure
Experience of managing complex projects
Experience of engaging with senior industry personnel
