Assistant Headteacher (Additional Needs +SENDCo)
The Assistant Headteacher (AHT) will develop a highly effective, cutting-edge approach to supporting young people with additional needs, special educational needs and disabilities and enable staff to become highly skilled and effective in their roles. This will include working with teachers in a coaching capacity to enhance pedagogy and lead a key strand of the school improvement plan.
The AHT will focus on securing high standards, progress and achievement for all young people at CCC. The AHT will implement and embed the SEND Code of Practice and ensure that SEND provision is efficiently and effectively managed. It is expected that all legal and statutory requirements are met for students with SEND via the AHT for Additional Needs. The AHT will maintain the overview of the Learning Support and overview/line manage staff working in learning support, behaviour/intervention social/emotional programmes, EAL and children who are Travellers. The AHT will map intervention provision across the College for all students with additional needs and work with the SLT to deliver an appropriate curriculum and innovative teaching strategies. The post holder will promote the delivery of quality first teaching across the college.
The AHT will uphold the school’s ethos, values and principles of unconditional positive regard and completely child-centred education.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To work with the Headteacher and as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and with other Trust leaders to drive school improvement to develop support for young people with additional needs, special educational needs, EAL and disabilities.
2. To provide strategic direction, development and implementation of SEND provision/SENDCo within the school.
3. Advise and support staff on the Universal Provision of Teaching and Learning (including coaching staff to improve and reflect on their practice).
4. Provide effective leadership to ensure staff are deployed appropriately and efficiently.
5. Carry out budget and resource management activities related to students with additional needs.
6. Ensure appropriate and effective intervention, behaviour and attendance support is delivered for students with additional needs.
7. Lead CPD for whole staff training as required.
8. Liaise with parents regularly and iteratively.
