The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.
1. Must be a USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant. Must have been promoted to the rank of Private First Class (PFC) by the closing date of this announcement.
2. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the closing date of this announcement.
3. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing date of this announcement.
4. Must possess a valid driver's license.
5. Must be able to work at multiple range sites throughout the Washington Metropolitan area to include Quantico, Cheltenham, Ft. Meade, and Rayburn as required.
6. Must possess a minimum level of firearms proficiency demonstrated by a range score of 255.
7. Must successfully complete the Law Enforcement Instructor Training Program (LEITP) and Firearms Instructor Training Program (FITP) to achieve certification.
8. Must submit to semi-annual blood and hearing tests.
9. Must be able to work rotating hours and shifts to include days, evenings, and midnight shifts. Additional Duty required as needed.
10. Must pass range safety officer and emergency medical technician exams to fulfill range requirements.
