At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Our customers use our NanoScience ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field environments to go beyond what was once thought possible, whether that’s creating Nobel Prize winning materials or developing quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
This is a hands-on role, that will see you performing low- temperature and high magnetic-field measurements, using our world-leading magnet and cryogenic systems. These measurements will be undertaken using a range of well-known but specialist electronic instruments.
The opportunity
In this placement opportunity, you can expect to conduct experiments within our Applications laboratory, program instruments to take automated measurements using python, analyse and communicate the results. As part of the role, you will participate in supporting new product design, as well as validating our products. You can expect to work as part of a team of measurement scientists, but also with the wider business such as New Product Introduction, Test and Software Development teams.
About You
This placement, starting in summer 2025, would suit an individual that is taking a relevant degree subject such as physics, physical sciences or material science and requires an industrial placement for their third year. It would be ideal if you had knowledge of programming with Python, however experience in another language such as MATLAB, or Igor Pro would also be considered. Experience of analysing data and practical laboratory experience is essential, along with the ability to problem solve, take ownership of your own work and work well in a team.
Please note that this work is in an area close to a high magnetic field and may not be suitable to all.
Benefits
In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays. We also invest in our talented employees by supporting them in their ongoing career and development so that they reach their full potential. We care and work hard to provide a workplace where you can grow and learn. #LI-JR1
