Job overview
The Special Schools Nursing Network collaborates with special schools to ensure that children with complex health needs can safely access their education. Working as a network strengthens the capacity within the nursing service, ensuring training and competency assessments of school staff are prioritised and effectively delivered across designated schools. This is achieved through training and assessing the competencies of school staff, who provide hands-on care to meet the health needs of children and young people. The nursing team will work across the network to ensure there is a shared workforce that can meet the safety needs of all children within the designated special schools.
The Special Schools Nurses triage and assess to identify any health tasks that can be delegated to school staff, who are then trained, supervised, and competency-assessed to deliver the health tasks This supervision and observation continues throughout the year, ensuring school staff feel supported and remain competent. Additionally, staff receive updated training and their competency is reassessed annually or sooner if required.
