The Opportunity
Leonardo UK is a leader in the field of airborne sensing and Defensive Aids equipment on military platforms around the world. The company operates as a number of Lines of Business (LoB) based across a number of key sites spanning the South of England and Scotland. Each LoB has a number of business sectors aligned to a coherent Product Portfolio and customer base.
This Project Engineering Lead (PEL) vacancy is within the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector in the NATO JEWCS Project, and is responsible for the success of the engineering activities on their assigned project. The PEL leads on a day-to-day basis on the Work Packages assisgned by the Project Engineering Manager (PEM). The PEL is responsible for providing their team with clear expectations of the engineering outcomes, ensuring that they operate consistently within the Policies & Procedures and to foster the improvement goals defined by the Engineering Function.
The PEL works with the Project Engineering Manager and ensures they are kept informed of the engineering status (progress, spend, risks, metrics) and supports the IPTL in internal and external engagements.
The PEL helps develop their Engineering Team providing mentoring, coaching and setting objectives and appraising them of their performance through the PDM process and regular
engagements.
This opportunity could be based from the Luton, and can benefit from hybrid-working.
What You Will Do:
1. Lead the Engineering aspects of the Project, ensuring technical quality, schedule and budget
2. Management of cross-site, multi-disciplined engineering teams, ensuring that roles within the teams are clearly defined
3. Create a positive working relationship with customers and partners, to deliver project capability
4. Establish and maintain good lines of communication internally across the Engineering IPT, with the IPT lead, Project Manager, functional heads
5. Work closely with the Systems Design Authority ensuring they are fully informed on technical progress, technical risk and any mitigation strategies
6. Ensuring the design solution meets the end user requirement, is reliable, fully documented and works within the its designated environment
7. Ensure the design solution is compatible with the business area route map
8. Control project configuration and change management to ensure design reuse is maximised.
9. Support the management of Suppliers and project Make or Buy decisions
10. Candidate concept solutions are captured, including the results of any trade off studies and end user engagement
11. Travel within the UK,, working alongside other teams within Leonardo, Customers (MoD), End Users and Industry Partners.
What we're looking for:
You really must have:
12. Experience in engineering management and delivery of projects
13. Engineering or scientific Degree qualification (or equivalent)
14. Excellent communicator and able to provide clear direction to team members based on other sites
15. Ability to manage complex situations with sound judgement and the ability to balance conflicting challenges
16. Commercial and business awareness
17. Experience of working across the full life cycle
