We are seeking highly motivated and dynamic student midwives due to qualify in 2025 or early 2026 to join our team. Our team is passionate about delivering high-quality care and achieving the best patient experience.
Opportunities are available across all areas within our maternity services. The innovative Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH) features a Birthing Centre, a mixed antenatal/postnatal inpatient ward, and a 24-hour Pregnancy Assessment Unit. The Birthing Centre provides women with midwifery care in state-of-the-art facilities, including waterbirth pools, alongside women requiring joint obstetric care. We also operate three standalone midwifery-led units offering continuity pathways of care.
We provide a comprehensive training package, strong links with local universities, and pride ourselves on an excellent preceptorship program for newly qualified midwives.
This post falls under the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles. Upon completing an agreed set of competencies, you may progress to the next pay band without applying for a higher-level position.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be on track to achieve midwifery registration. You should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, compassion, flexibility, and a willingness to develop new skills.
Successful candidates are expected to participate in Trust statutory and mandatory training annually.

Job responsibilities
* Manage a ward/unit/caseload, including assessing care needs and implementing evidence-based care plans.
* Exercise accountability as outlined in the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards.
* Maintain high clinical standards and ensure all midwifery care standards are met.
* Participate in on-call hospital and community rotas.
* Model compassionate and inclusive behavior to foster a positive organizational culture, engaging, enabling, and empowering team members through coaching, teamwork, and collaboration across boundaries.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* First-level live NMC Registered Midwife
* Registered mentor; mentorship qualification or relevant equivalent (must be gained within 12 months of appointment)
* Diploma, degree, or equivalent relevant experience
