The Audit and Research Coordinator will assist in promoting and facilitating the delivery of high-quality Audit and Research and Development activity across the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will ensure that all audit/research is conducted in full compliance with the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and other statutory obligations.
The post holder will work with the Head of Audit and Research & Development and Research Governance, Audit and Contracts Manager to implement the Trust's Audit and R&D Strategy and national Research Governance policies and procedures. Responsibilities include:
1. Providing research management support for both NIHR portfolio and non-portfolio studies.
2. Liaising with staff from all disciplines, internally at the ROH (research tissue bank applications, internally sponsored studies) and externally (other Trusts, commercial companies, research support networks) to deliver safe, ethical, and legal approval of research projects.
3. Engaging with the EDGE research database to ensure that all data relating to the projects is entered accurately and in a timely manner.
4. Carrying out analytical reports to present at Audit governance meetings.
5. Completing analytical reports for ward/area clinical audits and NICE guidance.
6. Assisting researchers to develop and compose research protocols suitable for regulatory approvals.
7. Sending research protocols through the internal peer review.
8. Checking Research Tissue Bank (RTB) applications for completeness and circulating them for internal peer review.
9. Collating individual responses from the peer review and liaising with the Head of R&D / Clinical Director for R&D when issuing approval letters.
10. Checking NIHR portfolios for potential studies.
11. Registering new studies on the R&D database and/or EDGE.
12. Supporting the generation of reports from the EDGE database to inform the wider department of study performance.
13. Facilitating and managing the AMaT Ward and Area reports monthly and liaising with the head of nursing to identify areas of concern based on Audit findings.
14. Registering all new research projects (and study amendments) onto the Research & Development Database and ensuring that the database is kept up-to-date throughout the lifetime of the research project.
15. Liaising with local investigator(s) and/or research team to complete Local Information Pack documents as required.
16. Being proactive and a positive role model for junior members of staff.
17. Involvement in the development of SOPs for the post, so that others may act in the absence of the post holder.
18. Maintaining effective communication and working relationships with all internal and external project staff, supporting clinical services, departments within the Trust, non-commercial bodies, and pharmaceutical sponsors.
19. Participating in unit meetings and attending meetings, seminars, and conferences when appropriate.
20. Liaising with researchers and collaborators as a first point of contact for new proposals.
21. Supporting researchers and clients both internal and external to the Trust.
22. Liaising with trust management staff such as clinical services managers, HR & Finance departments, to inform them of new studies and obtain their support as part of the approval process.
23. Liaising with all relevant support services such as pharmacy, radiology, and pathology to inform them of new studies and obtain their support as part of the trust approval process.
24. Supporting the calculation and invoicing of all studies.
25. Using the Audit Management and Tracking system to complete Reports and provide analysis to colleagues to support action planning.
