Join Us as a Community Employment Consultant!
Position: Employment Consultant
Location: Birmingham
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours/week)
Deadline to Apply: 14th April
Who We Are:
Forget everything you think you know about employment services. We do things differently — really differently. We’re a bold, award-winning organisation that’s flipping the script when it comes to helping people with convictions rebuild their lives.
Here’s how:
1. We train prisoners as Recruitment Consultants. Yep, real skills, real opportunities.
2. We bring employers inside prisons to meet, interview, and sometimes hire talent on the spot.
3. We work closely in the community, breaking down barriers and helping people find meaningful employment after release.
The Role:
As a Community Employment Consultant, you’ll be the crucial bridge between prisons, employers, and the community. You’ll champion our candidates, support the senior team, and work closely with our inspiring peer-led team behind bars.
What You'll Be Doing:
1. Build strong, collaborative relationships with prison staff.
2. Work alongside the Head of Inside Job to organise buzzing monthly interview days.
3. Connect with local and national employers, selling them on the incredible potential of our candidates.
4. Craft creative strategies to engage employers who want to make a difference.
5. Build vital relationships with Probation, DWP, Local Authorities, and third-sector heroes.
6. Keep everything ticking over using our snazzy custom CRM portal.
7. Provide hands-on, compassionate case management to individuals in the community, helping them overcome hurdles and land jobs.
Who You Are:
We’re not big on box-ticking, but here’s the sort of person who thrives in this role:
1. Comfortable and confident working in Prisons and Young Offender Institutions (you’ll need to pass vetting, of course!)
2. Empathetic, non-judgemental, and a brilliant listener
3. Aware of the barriers facing people with convictions, and ready to help smash them
4. Curious about the world of work, local industries, and employment trends
5. A natural relationship-builder who can talk to anyone — from CEOs to candidates
6. Organised, IT-savvy (MS Office etc.), and able to keep good records
7. Strong writer – whether it’s CVs, disclosure letters, or impactful emails
Bonus points if you’ve got recruitment or case management experience — but not essential.
Even bigger bonus points if you’ve got lived experience of the criminal justice system — we value it highly.
Why Join Us?
This isn’t just another job. It’s an opportunity to be part of something genuinely groundbreaking. It's a cliché but we mean it.
Our team is proudly diverse. Many of us — including our amazing Community Consultants — have lived through the criminal justice system. Your background and story matter to us.
You’ll get:
1. A salary that recognises your skills (£30-35K)
2. Real impact: you’ll change lives every day
3. Supportive, inspiring colleagues who care about what they do
4. Flexibility: Interviews can be online or face-to-face
5. A warm, welcoming team coffee catch-up to cap off the process
How to Apply:
Send us a CV (keep it simple) and a one-page cover letter.
Tell us:
1. Why YOU fit this role
2. Why YOU want to work with people leaving prison
If shortlisted, we'll invite you for a formal interview (online or in-person) + a short task to show us how you think.
Finally, pop by our Birmingham office for coffee with the team — informal, friendly, no stress!
