* A 6% company pension contribution
* Health Cash Plan
* A £500 bonus for successful referrals (T&Cs apply)
We are expanding our Fibre Optic R&D team in Torquay, Devon, and are looking for a talented Optical Systems Design Engineer to join our dynamic, global team. As a leader in cutting-edge optical technologies, we specialise in developing advanced products for a wide range of markets. Our innovations include high-power optical amplifiers and transmitter sub-systems for satellite communications, acousto-optic devices for quantum technologies, and photonic integrated circuits for next-generation optical components and systems.
In this role, you will contribute to the design, prototype assembly, and testing of fibre-optic and photonic-based sub-systems, working on exciting, forward-thinking projects.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
* Design & Development: Lead the design and development of photonic and fibre-optic components, modules, and sub-systems, utilising advanced fibre-optic and opto-electronic technologies.
* Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, including mechanical and electronic design engineers, to develop innovative products that push the boundaries of optical technology.
* Prototype Assembly & Testing: Take a hands-on approach to prototype assembly and rigorous testing, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of performance and reliability.
* Customer Engagement: Communicate design results and technical information clearly and effectively to both internal teams and external customers, ensuring alignment and satisfaction throughout the development process.
What We're Looking For
* Education: A degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline is a strong advantage.
* Expertise: A broad knowledge base in fibre-optics, photonics, and related technologies is essential. Experience with high-power fibre lasers/amplifiers, non-linear optics, photonic integrated circuits, or acousto-optics is highly desirable.
* Independence: A self-motivated individual with the ability to drive projects independently, troubleshoot complex issues, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
* Additional Skills: Experience in designing and developing fibre-optic and free-space transmission systems (analogue, digital, coherent) is a plus. The ability to generate proposals and manage both the financial and technical aspects of development projects would be advantageous.
