Level 3 - Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship Standard Duration Typically this apprenticeship will take 18 months Location Students are with their employer from day one and will study their taught components at an agreed Gen2 centre two days per month. This training will take place at a Gen2 centre based in West Cumbria, Carlisle or Furness. The students are visited by a Gen2 assessor in the workplace approximately every six weeks to assess their competence and monitor progress. Programme Components The programme delivered through Gen2 will consist of: • Completion of a Level 3 qualification • Regular performance reviews undertaken by the employer and Gen2 • Development of a portfolio of evidence including reports and evidence of tasks undertaken. • Observations by a Gen2 assessor • Ongoing professional discussions between the apprentice and the assessor relating to workplace competence and knowledge. • Feedback from line manager and peers. • Apprentices will be required to have or achieve Level 2 English and maths prior to completion of their apprenticeship. Delivery Plan and Commitment Off The Job Training The qualification requires 20% of time from the learner’s normal working week to be committed to the apprenticeship for the duration of the programme. This time must be away from the Learner’s normal work duties. Delivery of ‘Off The Job’ training includes: Safeguarding Health and Safety Understanding Learners - Child Development Communication and Collaboration Reflective Practice Personal Development On The Job Training Gen2 delivery of ‘On The Job’ training will be conducted on a six weekly basis and will consist of: Classroom observations of skills and behaviours Professional discussions with topics including keeping children safe, team working, adding value to education and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion Progress reviews Coaching and mentoring All learners will be required to achieve, if not already, Maths and English level 2. Those who have already achieved this qualification will be given opportunities in the bi-weekly sessions to further enhance their skills. Qualifications The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs including English and maths at Grade C or higher (or 4 or 5 new grading system).Functional Skills Level 2 will also be considered as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 (Grade C).
