This post will be an appointment by plastic surgery services.
It will help with communication and support of breast reconstruction patients.
The nurse will be based in the breast screening department with the breast care nurses, but will liaise closely with the plastic specialist nurses for clinical activities such as dressings and seroma drainage.
The post holder, after a period of training with the breast reconstruction surgeons, will counsel patients prior to breast reconstruction surgery explaining breast reconstruction options.
They will be the key contact throughout the patient's reconstructive journey, visiting patients on the ward pre and post-operatively and assisting in the training of ward staff in post-operative care.
Following discharge, the post holder will be a point of contact for patients for telephone advice and outpatient follow-up. Initially, this will be a Monday to Friday post with the scope to progress to a seven-day service in the future.

Main duties of the job
* Direct delivery of care to ward patients following ward round face to face.
* Nurse led wound care service (Plastics dressing clinic) or set up own clinic code for seroma and wound care.
* Virtual post-op clinics for drain management and check for pain management.
* Assist in consultant led clinics.
* Consultation OPD clinics post-operatively.
* Pre-assessment - New patient consultation regarding surgical options.
* Liaison between breast care and plastics team.
* Support management of Oncoplastic MDT.
* Admin time.
* Preparing for pre-assessment virtual clinic.
* Prioritise and manage own case load of patients attending MDT and presenting cases.

* Utilize and ensure others utilize IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce, and resource data available.

* Participating in clinic preparation and nurse led clinics.
* To undertake comprehensive health care needs of patients, changing treatment plans as necessary.
* Provide psychological support for individuals and carers, identifying and involving the appropriate multi-disciplinary services to ensure that the individual needs of the patient are being met.
* Be responsible for assessing and recognizing emergencies in their specialty. Able to interpret information and take appropriate action and lead others to do so. Advise and support patients to manage their symptoms, giving highly specialist advice as appropriate.
* Provide specialist care, knowledge and expertise, whilst being continually aware of the importance of empowering colleagues to ensure dissemination of knowledge and best practice.
* To attend consultant led outpatient clinics, lead patient consultations and manage and report on cases as appropriate.
* To ensure that the patients' holistic needs are taken into account in the decision-making process.
* To run nurse led clinics.
