Reporting to the Senior Bid Manager, the primary role of the Bid Manager is to manage and coordinate the preparation and timely and successful submission of complex bids and proposals in order to maximise order intake for Leonardo Helicopters. In support of the Campaign Manager, they are responsible for ensuring that our submissions are customer focused and solution driven in order to be business winning and competitive.
The Bid Manager will be proficient in digesting and communicating detailed customer requirements, through the business to the Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) who will support the Bid Manager in preparing a clearly defined, technically compliant and competitively priced proposal. The Bid Manager will be the focal point for the opportunity, and will provide bid management direction to the cross-geographical Integrated Campaign Team (ICT). Working closely with the Campaign Manager to set the bid strategy by understanding the customer’s operational requirements, Win Themes and Pricing to Win.
As a crucial part of the International Campaigns Department, you will be required to manage bids for both Leonardo Helicopters foreign and domestic customers. You will have the ability to learn and develop your skills in helicopter product knowledge with the opportunity to attend Leonardo Helicopters Familiarisation workshops. Development opportunities in bid management aligned to the Association of Bid and Proposal Management (APMP), and the company will support you in providing continual professional development through the means of business winning and functional specific learning opportunities.
You will be responsible for managing bids from Leonardo Helicopters’ four Domestic Markets (UK, Italy, Poland and US). This will likely offer the opportunity to travel to these locations. In addition to this, travel may be required to target markets to oversee final delivery of bid submissions.
Preferably accredited with the APMP, the Bid Manager must have demonstrable experience of delivering successful complex and business winning tenders. The successful candidate will ideally be an experienced Bid Management professional from the Defence Industry, with a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience. Cognisant of the importance of International English, they will be skilled in managing senior ICT and comfortable in briefing Senior Leadership Team members.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
1. Accept and manage proposals tasks from commencement of bid through to proposal and negotiation to contract award. Responsible for acting as the guardian of our Bid Management Processes, to ensure that bid submissions are commercially viable and limit the company’s risk exposure.
2. Responsible for forecasting and budgeting for functional resource requirements, maintaining active oversight of the bid budget.
3. Confidently escalating or managing priorities and potential conflicts in a timely way, to avoid deviation from the bid schedule.
4. Liaise with the Heads of Region and Campaign Managers to oversee and manage the creation of all bid deliverables, working with the Bid Editing Team to ensure bid submissions are of high quality and place Leonardo Helicopters in the best possible chance for success.
5. Manage the technical and price compliance of our bid submissions.
6. Manage individually and collectively packages of technical and commercial work for the proposals and bidding activity and complete within the given deadlines.

9. Liaise with external resources specific to the task
10. Prepare and present concise and informative briefing and approval papers for Senior Leadership Team.
11. Support Campaign Manager, and wider Leonard team with customer negotiations as required and provide a handover to contract administration, and programme management.
12. Support the Head of Bids & Proposals UK in establishing and improving processes.
13. Review and understand the risk associated with the bid and liaise with the functions on mitigation action.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
14. Experience in Bid or Project Management discipline
15. Excellent use of International English and English grammar
16. Pro-active, able to work using own initiative and within a the ICT ensuring we collectively we achieved the deadline
17. Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with other functional departments

19. Flexible to meet demands of the bids
20. Confidently communicate bid progress to Head of Bids & Proposals UK the Divisional Senior Leadership Team
21. Proven ability to manage of multi-functional and multi-cultural teams
22. Knowledge of other languages useful, particularly Italian
23. Ability to ensure Campaign Win Themes are clearly identifiable to the customer
24. Ability to build an effective professional network both virtually and in person
It would be nice if you had:
25. Experience managing successful bids with inputs and stakeholders from a multi-cultural environment.
26. Defence aerospace industry experience.
27. APMP / APM Certification.
