Job summary
Anexciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, highly motivated andenthusiastic midwife to develop in the role of Delivery Suite Coordinator at WorcesterRoyal Hospital. This is a 12-month secondment position. As a delivery suite coordinator,you will work in partnership with other band 7 coordinators, ward managers, matrons,and medical obstetric colleagues to ensure an excellent standard of care isprovided to women and their families.
Youwill be located on Delivery Suite and Triage providing clinical care and leadershipguidance, support and advice to other members of the team, over a 24 hourperiod.
Ourideal candidate will have a wide range of clinical skills and be keen to takepart in the leadership of the unit. You will work collaboratively with themulti-disciplinary team and strive to improve the quality of our services.
Applicationsare welcomed from passionate Band 6 and Band 7 midwives, who have a strongcommitment to midwifery practice and have recent experience of labour care andan understanding of both low and high risk antenatal pathways.

Main duties of the job
During the secondment the successful candidate will develop the necessary skills to be a Band 7 Delivery Suite Coordinator.
The band 7 midwife has continuing responsibility to coordinatedelivery suite and triage demonstrating excellent communication andinterpersonal skills.
The band 7 will facilitate innovative and evidence based midwiferypractice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.
The band 7 will act as a credible and professional role model andencourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionallyto achieve their maximum potential.
The band 7 must maintain an awareness of the condition of allDelivery Suite patients as well as high risk patients on the Antenatal andPostnatal ward.
The band 7 will participate in Medical staff handovers andConsultant ward rounds.
The band 7 will assist in managing workload, skill mixes, staffinglevels, bed availability.
The Band 7 will have regular exposure to unpredictable high levelsof clinical activity and must have the ability to prioritise workload despitecompleting demands and constantly changing service requirements, where it isessential to remain calm under pressure.

Job responsibilities
Patient Care
Providespecialist midwifery expertise, ensuring all staff are supported in theirpractice on day to day and on-going basis.
Toensure the assessment, development and evaluation of programmes of care inorder to co-ordinate the holistic needs of the patients. To be responsible forthe organisation of midwifery care of the patients who have been assigned tothe area.
Totake measures to ensure the safety of patients, which includes delegation ofpatient care to midwives with the appropriate levels of skills at all times,making adjustments as workload and caseload alters, using developed decisionmaking skills. To report any incidents/accidents to the ward manager/Matron.Assist in investigation of complaints and implement recommendations arisingfrom these investigations.
Tofacilitate research based practice within the ward/department and ensureappropriate implementation.
Toensure that Midwifery Guidelines/Protocols are implemented and maintained inaccordance with the Policies of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trustand NMC Guidance.
Toensure good standards of practice in the ward/department, through participationin effective quality assurance measures such as clinical audit programmes.
Providecare to bereaved patients and their relatives, breaking bad news and supportingother staff undergoing this process.
Communicateeffectively with multi-disciplinary professionals and agencies, ensuringseamless care at a high standard.
To be fully conversant in dealing with complexmidwifery problems such as child protection issues.
Management
Toensure that duty rota for the staff will provide effective and well balancedcover to meet with the requirements of a 24 hour service and ensure thepresence of suitably qualified and experienced midwives at all times. Developnew ways of working if workload requires this.
Toliaise with other band 7s within the Directorate as necessary, to ensureworkload and skill mix are effectively managed. Inform and discuss with seniormidwife manager/supervisor of midwives any problems highlighted.
Communicatecomplex and sensitive patient and staff information facilitating good workingrelationships.
Ensureall resources are used to the optimum.
Toensure all staff are conversant and comply with Trust Policies and regulationsand attend mandatory updates as instructed.
Tomonitor the safe and effective use of all equipment and the economic use ofsupplies and ordering equipment replacement, together with maintenance of thatequipment.
Tomaintain accurate management records relating to all aspects of ward/departmentmanagement.
Toact as unit coordinator, to be able to make decisions and take the necessaryaction.
Tobe responsible for the management of Health & Safety matters, identifyingthat their work areas comply with all Health & Safety regulations.
Tocarry out annual Personal Development Reviews of midwives and other staff asrequired.
Tobe involved in the process of investigating patient complaints and incidentinvestigations
Education & Training
Tobe a senior mentor and preceptor to junior midwives and student midwives,working closely with education providers.
Toensure staffs reach their full potential by enabling them to developprofessional, clinical, managerial and communication skills, which will beidentified through the use of appraisals and effective communication skills.
Toplan and participate in the teaching programmes of students, working closelywith the Universities.
Todevelop the role of midwifery within the area, providing training andassessment to extend clinical skills, as appropriate to the area.
Toidentify areas for development of skills in line with the local and nationalguidance.
