In this role you will work in the first line of defence within the UK General Insurance business unit (UKGI) to advise on legal and regulatory duties, understand and explain their impact on the business and implement effective controls. Key responsibilities Provides subject matter expertise about the legal and regulatory universe in which UKGI operates. Identifies legal and regulatory developments affecting UKGI in conjunction with Line 2 colleagues and advises on the development of appropriate internal controls in response. Analyses actual and potential impacts on UKGI’s legal and regulatory duties and obligations, and recommends efficient, proportionate and effective approaches to UKGI management. Provides clear and practical explanation, advice and guidance. Drives, manages and reports on implementation progress within UKGI. Provides assurance and clear, concise and accurate reporting to the UKGI Leadership Team on compliance and conduct on a timely basis. Ensuring the effective operation of relevant governance and implementation groups e.g Customer and Conduct Council. Promotes clear and practical understanding of legal and regulatory duties and obligations, and actual and potential risks arising therefrom. Undertake and support root cause analysis of risk incidents and indicators, coordinating with other areas to triangulate across different sources of such information. Contributes towards ensuring that all colleagues in UKGI remain appropriately informed of their corporate and individual regulatory obligations. Liaises closely with Group Compliance and other SBU colleagues where relevant on UKGI matters to ensure mutual effectiveness. Assists UKGI teams and senior management in responding to assurance and monitoring reviews. Assists where advice is required on business development activities. Knowledge, skills and experience Proven experience in a role engaged in a legal and regulatory environment that involved translating rules and principles into practical outcomes for a business. Proven competence in general insurance in the UK. Proven experience of influencing stakeholders at all levels. Attention to detail. Proactive thinking including anticipation and preparation for potential challenges and queries. Business writing and preparing regulatory reports summarising information from a variety of sources. Legal, compliance or risk professional qualification advantageous.
