My client is seeking a Fire Engineer to join their Fire Safety Services team, reporting directly to the Director. This role focuses on delivering high-quality fire engineering services, ranging from fire risk assessments to designing and implementing fire safety strategies for both new and existing buildings.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Risk Assessments: Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments (intrusive and non-intrusive) for high-rise and high-risk buildings, including FRAEW (PAS 9980), focusing on cladding, fire-stopping, escape routes, and other fire hazards. Assess fire spread potential and structural impacts.
Fire Safety and Design Planning: Create fire safety and design strategies for new builds, renovations, and conversions, ensuring compliance with planning and building control standards. Liaise with design and construction teams to ensure adoption of fire safety measures.
Material Recommendations: Recommend appropriate construction materials to achieve compartmentation and mitigate smoke and fire spread. Evaluate existing materials and suggest alternatives when non-compliance is identified.
Compliance Reviews: Analyse and review third-party designs to confirm adherence to Building Regulations, local codes, and fire safety standards.
Legislation Adherence: Ensure all fire safety strategies comply with current legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with local authorities, Building Safety Regulators, building inspectors, and fire safety enforcement bodies to secure necessary certifications and ensure legal compliance.
Evacuation Strategy Design: Develop evacuation strategies, collaborating with property managers, residents, and boards to ensure effective implementation.
Construction Monitoring: Conduct site inspections during construction, advise on maintaining compliance, and oversee remedial works to mitigate fire risks.
Fire Service Access: Assess fire service access and firefighting provisions in both existing and planned buildings, identifying non-compliance and proposing solutions.
Reporting: Produce detailed reports such as fire safety strategies, FRAEW assessments, compliance documents, and remedial progress updates.
Knowledge Maintenance: Stay informed about evolving fire safety standards and regulations, particularly for high-risk and complex buildings.
