Job Opportunity: Specification Technologist (Hybrid) Location: Bala, North Wales (Hybrid: 3 days on-site, 2 days WFH) Salary: £38,000 per annum Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm Start Date: ASAP Our client, a leading food manufacturer based in Bala, North Wales, is seeking an experienced Specification Technologist to join their growing Technical team. Package Includes: • Competitive salary of £38K • Hybrid working pattern (2 days WFH, 3 on site) • £200 signing bonus at weeks 13 and 26 • Subsidised local gym membership (gym, pool & fitness classes) • Free on-site parking Role Overview: The successful candidate will be responsible for the completion and management of finished product specifications across a range of major UK retailers, including Lidl, Co-op and Aldi. They will also support the wider team with specification systems administration, artwork approval, and supplier onboarding. Experience managing a small, hybrid or remote team is essential. Key Responsibilities Include: • Writing and completing specifications for customer, retailer, and own-brand products • Working across multiple supermarket platforms, including Lidl, Co-op, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, and others • Managing retailer and specification systems, including artwork approval processes • Supplier approval and onboarding • Pack copy generation and legal labelling compliance • Supporting NPD with nutritional data and gate process submissions • Cross-checking documentation for accuracy and compliance • Participating in pre- and post-launch reviews • Training and supporting junior specification writers • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of retailer codes of practice and food legislation Candidate Requirements: • Proven experience as a specification writer in the food industry • Solid knowledge of at least three major retailer systems - ideally including Lidl, Co-op, and Aldi • Experience managing a small team, ideally in a hybrid or fully remote setting • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines • Excellent written and verbal communication • Competency in Microsoft Office and artwork/packaging systems • Understanding of BRC, food labelling legislation, and supplier approval processes This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Specification Technologist to take on a rewarding role within a supportive and forward-thinking business.
