Knots Rugs is one of the UK’s leading luxury hand-knotted rug companies, renowned for our innovative designs and high-art aesthetic. Based in our King’s Road showroom, we are a small, collaborative team dedicated to delivering exceptional craftsmanship and service to our clients.
We are seeking a Design Assistant to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with our designers, learn the intricacies of luxury rug design, and contribute to the creative process while also taking on essential organizational and administrative responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will not only bring exceptional creativity and organizational skills but will also feel confident interacting with interior designers and other high-end clients, advising on design options, and presenting ideas professionally.
The Role
This role combines creativity, organization, and client interaction. You will assist in designing rugs, preparing presentations, and managing design projects while maintaining and organizing sample libraries, loan notes, and spreadsheets. You will also be expected to liaise with interior designers, advising them on our products, design possibilities, and custom options to meet their specific needs.
This role is perfect for someone passionate about rugs, design, and interiors, who also thrives on structure, detail, and working with discerning clientele in the luxury interiors market.
Key Responsibilities
Design Support
1. Assist the design team in creating new rug concepts, patterns, and layouts.
2. Prepare and refine digital artwork and presentations for custom projects.
3. Collaborate with the design team on custom orders, including selecting colors, materials, and patterns.
4. Research trends in luxury interiors, textiles, and art to inform designs.
5. Gain an understanding of rug production processes, including materials, weaving techniques, and finishing.
Client Interaction
1. Communicate directly with interior designers, providing expert advice on design options, materials, and custom solutions.
2. Present design concepts and ideas confidently, tailoring advice to meet client needs.
3. Develop strong working relationships with designers and other high-end clients to ensure excellent service and repeat business.
Organizational & Administrative Tasks
1. Manage the sample library, including tracking inventory, sending out loan notes, and following up on returns.
2. Update and maintain design spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy and clarity for team use.
3. Communicate with suppliers and vendors regarding sample requests and deliveries.
4. Assist with general administrative tasks to support the team’s workflow.
5. Handle correspondence and logistics related to design projects and sample loans.
Skills and Experience Required

1. A degree (or working towards one) in textile design, interiors, or a related creative field.
2. Strong proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
3. Excellent artistic and creative skills, with an eye for detail, colour, and composition.
4. Experience with CAD or textile design programs is a plus.
Organizational & Client Skills
1. Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
2. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
3. Highly organized with experience managing inventories, spreadsheets, or similar systems.
4. Confident and personable, with the ability to build rapport with interior designers and other clients.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and professionally.
