Job Description:
Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex needs? Do you have experience using strategies like Now and Next and providing 1:1 support, including personal care? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to make a positive impact at one of our schools in Birmingham.
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled SEND Teaching Assistant to work with children who require additional support in their educational and personal development. The ideal candidate will have experience working with ASC and complex needs, and be able to provide both academic and personal care support to students on a 1:1 basis.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 support to a child with ASC and complex needs, ensuring they are able to fully participate in lessons and school life.
2. Use "Now and Next" strategies to provide structure, routine, and help the student stay engaged in activities.
3. Support with personal care needs as required, ensuring the student's comfort and dignity.
4. Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCO to implement individualised learning plans and interventions.
5. Help develop and implement positive behaviour management strategies to support the child's emotional and social development.
6. Encourage the student's independence and confidence, offering praise and positive reinforcement.
7. Monitor and report on the student's progress and well-being, attending meetings and contributing to the development of their Individual Education Plans.
8. Foster a supportive, inclusive environment that meets the child's academic, social, and emotional needs.
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Previous experience working with children with ASC and complex needs in a SEND setting.
2. Knowledge and experience of using Now and Next strategies to support learning and engagement.
3. Ability to provide personal care in a sensitive and respectful manner.
4. A firm but compassionate approach to behaviour management, with experience supporting students with complex needs.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
6. A patient, calm, and empathetic nature, with a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of students with SEND.
7. Relevant qualifications in SEND, education, or child development are desirable but not essential.
