Application Deadline: 6 January 2025
Department: Childrens Services
Location: Torbay Council
Compensation: £30,559 - £33,366 / year
Description
We have a Community Care Worker vacancy within the Building Futures team, providing Edge of Care services to our Torbay children and families.
We are a busy team working with complex and demanding situations affecting children and families in Torbay, where children are experiencing challenges within their family environment. The aim of the team is to provide high quality intervention and support to children and families, to enable children to achieve better outcomes, safety, stability and permanence.
Presently, our Team operates a service Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm weekdays, excluding Thursdays and Saturdays where service is provided 10am-6pm. These hours are currently supported by two-week rota shift patterns across the team.
Our ethos is guided by working restoratively with children, families and colleagues. We focus on developing strong positive working relationships with whole families to address crisis and persistent issues, for example neglect.
Building Futures provides high intensity and a rapid response to a number of children and families in crisis, enabling them to address and overcome the difficulties that have led to the family being at risk of breakdown, and prevent further escalation and avoid admission into the care of the local authority - unless that is the only safe option. The Building Futures Team also supports the safe re-unification of children to their families, following a period where they have been cared for by the Local Authority, and also supports cared for children and their carers in terms of enhancing placement stability.
Role:
We are looking for skilled practitioners who have experience of direct work with complex and hard to reach families. You will have confidence and skills to work with young people and families in crisis. You will be a dedicated and enthusiastic professional, committed to improving outcomes for children and their families.
Appropriate candidates will have a good understanding of social care. You will also come with particular experience and knowledge of how to work with specific hard to reach groups including those affected by domestic abuse, criminal exploitation and anti-social behaviours, child sexual exploitation, gang affiliation, drug and alcohol misuse, and school exclusion or truanting.
This is a challenging role, but the team offers a high level of support and oversight, including regular group and individual supervision. Further training will be available for the successful candidates. The successful applicant will need the ability to travel efficiently around the Bay/South West/UK in order to carry out duties, and the ability to accommodate unsociable hours.
This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.
