About the role
At Hammersmith & Fulham, we are ambitious in reforming the council to ensure this is a place for everybody delivering the best service for all.
The works inspector sits within the highway works coordination and licensing team within highways and is a key role in the coordination and management of activities being undertaken on the highway in a safe manager. The role is vital in helping the council meet its statutory duties of maintaining a safe highway network, minimising traffic disruption on the network and maintaining the condition of the public asset.
It is primarily a lone working role that requires the inspection of ongoing street works activities by external parties as well as the subsequent reinstatements to make sure there is compliance with the relevant legislation. Each day provides its own challenges and conflicting priorities including emergency activities and dangerous works sites, which the inspector will need to manage and communicate to others in the team.
Effective undertaking of the role and the appropriate inspections is also a key factor in maximising revenue for the council associated in delivering this service. The role also requires communication with other members of the team with regards to compliance and coordination matters.
