The Leicester Metabolic Service is undergoing an exciting period of expansion. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is interested in working in a specialist and learning-rich environment, who can demonstrate compassion and empathy for our children, young people and their families. The successful candidates will be joining an expanding multi-professional team as we begin to collaborate with Nottingham to form the East Midland’s Paediatric Metabolic Service. As a metabolic clinical nurse specialist, you will liaise and co-ordinate the care for patients with inherited metabolic disorders. You will be expected to work alongside the consultants and wider multi-professional team through the attendance at MDT meetings and through co-ordinating and attending speciality clinics. You will be an advocate for the patient and their family, discussing treatment and surveillance plans with them and supporting them to understand the treatment pathway. You will be expected to work without supervision. The role includes working collaboratively with Nottingham Children’s Hospital, in addition to supporting the District General Hospitals across the East Midlands to ensure our patients receive high quality care.
Be based in Leicester Children’s Hospital and work collaboratively within the multi-professional Child and Adolescent East Midland’s Collaborative Metabolic Service.
1. To work with a range of stakeholders across Health, Social Care and third sector organisations to facilitate appropriate care for children with Inherited Metabolic Disorders across the region.
2. Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the patients and carers and multi-professional team across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland, as well as our neighbouring counties.
3. Work alongside other members of the Metabolic multidisciplinary team, Regional Lead Nurse and Head of Nursing to ensure the development and delivery of a high quality service.
4. Directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the Metabolic service.
5. Deliver high quality, clinically effective care and patient experience, utilising research and in collaboration with colleagues in everyday practice.
6. Act as a role model and clinical resource demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership in the specialist area.
