A dynamic and rapidly growing retail business is seeking an experienced and ambitious Finance Manager to bring its finance function in-house. This is a key leadership role that will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to shape and enhance financial processes, directly impacting the company's growth and success. As the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive accounting service, managing financial operations, and providing strategic insights to support decision-making. You will be a key member of the leadership team, collaborating with internal departments, external stakeholders, and advisors to ensure financial efficiency, compliance, and transparency. Duties & Responsibilities Strategic Financial Management : Develop and manage a weekly cashflow model to provide a clear view of the company’s liquidity position and support strategic decision-making. Partner with the leadership team to deliver financial insights and recommendations that drive business growth and operational improvements. Financial Planning & Analysis : Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, working closely with key stakeholders to set realistic and achievable targets. Monitor and report on key financial metrics, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities. Deliver scenario planning to evaluate the financial impact of potential business decisions or external market changes. Management Reporting : Oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate monthly management accounts, ensuring they are completed in a timely manner. Conduct detailed variance analysis to explain financial performance, providing actionable insights to senior management. Operational Finance & Compliance : Supervise and mentor a Finance Assistant, ensuring all day-to-day accounting tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. Oversee invoice management, credit control, and accounts payable processes, ensuring adherence to agreed terms and minimising aged debt. Lead the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements. Payroll & Employee Benefits : Manage payroll preparation and submission, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality. Liaise with HR to manage employee benefit schemes, including pension contributions and other entitlements. Year-End & Audit : Work with external accountants to prepare year-end statutory accounts and tax returns, ensuring all documentation is audit-ready. Support external audits by providing comprehensive financial records and responding to queries. Stock & Inventory Management : Collaborate with the operations and purchasing teams to ensure accurate stock valuations and integrate inventory data into financial reporting. Conduct regular reviews of stock movements, helping to identify inefficiencies and ensure optimal stock levels. Process & Systems Improvement : Evaluate and enhance financial systems and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Implement financial controls to reduce risk and maintain the integrity of financial data. Ad Hoc Projects : Contribute to cross-functional projects, such as the implementation of new ERP systems, business case development for new initiatives, and operational restructuring. Prerequisites & Attributes Qualifications & Experience : Part-qualified or fully qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA). Proven experience in a retail finance environment, with a strong understanding of stock management and inventory processes. Skills & Competencies : Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and present insights clearly. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise reports and deliver presentations to senior stakeholders. Advanced proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Xero, Sage, or similar) and Excel, with the ability to automate processes and perform data analysis. Personal Attributes : A proactive and self-motivated approach, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. High attention to detail and accuracy, even when working under pressure.
