Purpose of the role
We have a great opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join the amazing Commercial team based at Guilden Sutton, Cheshire, CH2 4EX to work on the Cheshire West and Chester contract.Reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will manage the procurement of subcontract packages and maintain project forecasts. The role will be a first point of contact for commercial matters, and you will be involved with the preparation and submission of final accounts, preparation of quotations and Bill of Quantities from drawings, ensuring timeous receipt of monies by efficient invoicing and collection of all debts. support the commercial team and be flexible to support other areas when required.
Main Responsibilities
As a Quantity Surveyor you will give reasoned advice, have an appropriate depth and breadth of technical knowledge and its implementation. You will be involved in take-off from site drawings to create bill of quantities and possess good knowledge of contract documents, specification, method of measurement etc. On a day to day you will be responsible for cost forecasting, management and control processes including the use of contract programmes, change and risk registers. It is important that you are able to provide advice on contractual matters and formulating contractual correspondence, possess a knowledge of the elements present in a project budget, understand the basics of company accounts, including turnover, profit/loss, work in progress and cash-flow and the various uses of Bills of Quantities, Schedules of Rates, and Activity Schedules and their preparation in accordance with standard methods of measurement. You will be involved in identifying, recording, notifying and negotiating change in accordance with the contract. You will analyse and compare contract and subcontract tenders and tender budget information. The in house software which you will use are: Coupa, Lisa and Confirm, any previous experience using these softwares are advantageous, but not essential has training will be given. You will be required to complete any other tasks which is instructed by your line manager. You will ensure that projects are managed effectively in line with Colas’ governance, policies and procedures.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a HND in Civil Engineering or similar. It is essential you have a minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Quantity Surveyor with demonstrable evidence of relevant civils and highways post degree experience and taking off measures from drawings to produce a Bill of Quantities. If you do not have a degree you will need to demonstrate a minimum of atleast 5 years experience working within the industry. You will have previous experience of highway projects as a QS with measurement experience. Contract knowledge, specifically NEC 3 and 4 would be advantageous.
As a Quantity Surveyor you will be an excellent communicator, client focused with good commercial awareness and commitment to business success. You will have good time management/attitude to change, ability to plan and prioritise your own workload working under pressure to meet deadlines. A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role.
