This is an opportunity to join the expanding team within Radiotherapy Physics providing clinical scientific and physics services to the Department of Radiotherapy and Oncology. The Department has a Managed Services Contract with Ergéa to provide a comprehensive radiotherapy service to the people of Norfolk. The radiotherapy equipment consists of five Varian TrueBeams, 2 CT-simulators, Eclipse treatment planning system, orthovoltage unit and Bravos High dose-rate brachytherapy afterloading machine. The Department is fully electronically networked and largely paper-free. The department has also recently installed SGRT (VisionRT) across all linacs and CT.
The postholder will be expected to work shifts as part of an extended day working arrangement. Some weekend working may be required.
The Study Leave Policy, as issued by the NNUH, is to be followed relating to attendance at Courses, etc. Details of this can be provided on request.

As post holder, your duties will include:
• Assisting in all aspects of the radiotherapy physics service i.e. treatment planning, brachytherapy and quality assurance.
• Contributing to the development of new treatment techniques and assisting with commissioning of new equipment.
• Participation in research and development projects with a view to presentation.
• Assisting with teaching and training within the Department.
• Participation in maintaining the Departmental ISO9001:2015 quality system including review of procedures, writing of work instructions, carrying out audits.

• To assist in the provision of scientific support and advice to the external beam treatment planning service.
• To produce and check external beam treatment plans both routine and complex, and to provide scientific advice to radiographers and clinicians.
• To carry out effective radiation dosimetry for all aspects of radiotherapy, i.e. treatment planning, machine dosimetry and brachytherapy.
• To carry out regular quality assurance measurements for all equipment in Radiotherapy including High Energy Linear Accelerators, HDR Brachytherapy equipment, Xstrahl superficial unit, CT scanners and Eclipse Treatment Planning System and to provide highly specialised advice regarding the adjustment of parameters to improve dose output of the units.
• To participate in the Duty Treatment Planning, Duty Physics and Brachytherapy rotas.
• To assist with the training of Radiotherapy trainee Clinical Scientists, Planning Radiographers, BSc Radiography and other students as required.
• To assist with the training of nursing and other staff in radiation safety, and the use of the High dose rate afterloading brachytherapy treatment machine.
• To assure compliance with current legislation on Radiation Safety including the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and the Ionising Radiations Medical Exposures (IR(ME)R) Regulations.
