The Software Engineering Manager (SEM) is a critical role responsible for leading a team of engineers to design, develop, and maintain software solutions that meet the needs of the business and its customers. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with teams across the business.
What you'll be doing
1. Design and implement high-quality solutions that meet defined requirements
2. Provide estimates and scope of upcoming work, clarify implementation and architectural details
3. Support owned components and prevent potential technical or process problems
4. Maintain a healthy team culture, develop team members, and serve as an escalation point for issues
5. Facilitate meetings, promote open dialogue, and organise knowledge-sharing sessions
6. Ensure clear business goals, coordinate priorities with stakeholders, and communicate with external parties
7. Ensure compliance with Bede’s policies, procedures, and established best practices
8. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging team members to explore new ideas and technologies that can help improve processes and solutions
9. Build strong relationships with other teams across the business, including Product and Project Management, to ensure alignment and collaboration
10. Keep up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and use this knowledge to inform and influence the team’s technical direction and strategy
11. Emphasise the importance of testing and quality assurance throughout the development process, working with the team to implement automated testing and continuous integration and delivery practices
12. Encourage and support professional development and growth for team members, providing opportunities for training, mentorship, and career advancement
13. Any other required duties that are deemed reasonable to the role.

10. Proficient in diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently and effectively.
11. High-level coding skills in relevant programming languages and frameworks.
12. Expertise in reviewing code, ensuring adherence to best practices, and maintaining high-quality standards.
