We’re seeking a Vehicle Experience Research Lead to join our rapidly growing team. Reporting to our Human Factors Lead you will sit in the Human Factors Team within Vehicle Engineering. You will be data-driven and adopt both quantitative and qualitative approaches to product development and in-vehicle experience research. You will be responsible for developing and executing your own research protocols to assess vehicle experience across competitor vehicles and setting/tracking targets within our own vehicles with the human user in mind. You will be a sub-attribute owner covering areas such as cargo and stowage within the vehicle, journey start/end procedures, and passenger controls and interactions. You will be the scientific research-focused backbone to the wider UX workstream and work cross-functionally to deliver on the attribute. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong appreciation and enthusiasm for both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and will require expertise in transforming study data into engineering targets and requirements. This pivotal role will operate in a hybrid capacity from out of our offices in Leamington Spa. What you’ll do Development and maintain the 'Vehicle Experience' attribute items (L3-L5). Conduct user trials in competitor vehicles to assess the performance of vehicle experience using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Provide the evidence for the creation of key system usability targets based on primary research and competitor benchmarking. Use primary data to create Standards and Guidelines to guide design and UX colleagues towards human-centric solutions. Work cross-functionality with UX, design, product, and vehicle architecture teams to enable a culture of evidence-based decision-making. Collaborate with Human Factors and Ergonomics research activities such as ergonomic buck testing, on-road, and simulator-based user trials. Identify and explore areas for experience innovation and maintain a critical awareness of market trends and changing user needs. Who you are Essential Enthusiastic for hands-on research, strongly data oriented, and uncompromisingly human-centric. Highly motivated problem solver who can autonomously define research questions, develop protocols and conduct studies to lead product development through a data-driven approach. Degree level qualification in Psychology, Product/Industrial Design, Engineering, Human Factors or Human Sciences (or related subject). Higher level degree (PhD) with a research focus is preferred. An excellent communicator with ability to present to senior stakeholders to drive impact and make product improvements, backed with data. Desirable Strong hands-on research capability with the ability to define research questions, develop and execute a research protocol in challenging timelines. Thorough understanding in statistical methods and the ability to use relevant software. Proven experience developing and conducting qualitative research methods including interviews, survey design, and thematic analysis. Strong understanding of relevant validated research methods and tools (e.g., SUS, TLX, DALI, UEQ, MSSQ, ethnography, hierarchal task analysis etc.). Understanding of attribute management process preferred and ability to develop a design validation plan. Strong ability to learn and develop in methods and tools relevant to Ergonomics and Human Factors. Ability to lead research teams and manage junior team members.
