The Social Content Hub delivers content for all of the Scottish Government’s main social media channels, and provides expert advice, guidance, training and content development to support social across all of government. Senior Social Media Managers, in addition to carrying an even higher level of the social media expertise expected at Social Media Manager (SMM) level, line manage SMMs, working to ensure that all content is developed to a high standard and in line with all relevant policy, strategy and the Scottish Government’s communications objectives. Senior Social Media Managers bring a range of sub-specialisms; some develop a strong sense of breaking news and high-priority urgent content, others are campaign-focussed and develop longer-term strategies, or focus on the presentation of the First Minister on social media. Responsibilities Work with policy, news and marketing colleagues to develop highly engaging, stand-alone social media assets including video clips and infographics for priority campaigns and announcements. Draft and implement social media content plans. Provide digital and social media support at high-priority Ministerial events. Update the Scottish Government’s social media channels which include Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. Ensure content is of a high standard and is used effectively to meet strategic communication objectives. Monitor digital and social media analytics to contribute to evaluation and inform future activity. Carry out social media monitoring using keywords around high profile events. Community management of social media channels including moderating comments and managing responses to direct messages. Working flexibly across the working day, including late or early starts to help meet business demands. Experience: Social media managers are expected to have a thorough professional understanding of social media platforms and how they work, with an appetite to build on their knowledge of algorithmic changes, content optimisation, and trends in the industry, with an understanding of how to translate these appropriately to government channels. A proven track record as a social media manager, including creation of highly-engaging video, static and written content. An excellent understanding of the social media landscape including managing multiple channels, use excellent judgement, have a sharp nose for a story and the ability to prioritise under pressure. Familiarity with video editing and graphic software, such as Adobe, Canva, or equivalents, is beneficial but can be taught in-house where necessary.
