Our continued expansion means that the role will be initially based in Caerphilly, relocating to our state-of-the-art HQ in Newport by end of the year.
About the role
We are looking for a VP Technical to join our Technical team. As part of a small team reporting to the SVP Technical, the VP Technical supports acquisitions, technical lease management, and trading of aircraft, engines & major assets through technical value assessments, purchase negotiation support, and sales/remarketing management and advice. Although primarily office-based, this role requires regular travel to meet with airlines, suppliers, and customers, as well as to attend key industry events.
If you have extensive experience in a Technical, Asset Management, or Commercial Procurement role within an Airline, MRO, or Leasing company, along with excellent communication skills and strong relationship-building abilities, we’d like to hear from you.
Responsibilities
* Inspire and manage the Technical team, prioritising projects and allocating resources.
* Manage technical activities for aircraft and engine asset acquisition, including maintenance forecasts, valuations, and due diligence.
* Conduct comprehensive aircraft due diligence, including but not limited to technical records, aircraft & engine physical inspection, LLP BTB review, Borescope & MPA overview.
* Manage engine lease or trade deliveries, returns, storage and transitions to lessees or buyers.
* Ensure compliance with technical lease provisions, supporting aircraft purchases, and contributing to remarketing efforts.
* Working knowledge of aviation legislation and OEM data to ensure compliance with all aspects of technical management.
* Travel internationally for aircraft and engine airworthiness record reviews and customer meetings.
* Negotiate contracts with Maintenance Repair Organizations and suppliers.
* Provide key stakeholder input on LOI documentation and sale agreements.
* Serve as a technical stakeholder for transaction management, advising senior leadership on acquisitions, trading and leasing assets.
* Identify and implement process improvements within AerFin’s operations.
* Collaborate with leadership to enhance business practices and promote a high-performance culture.
* Support the evaluation of future aircraft and engine acquisitions and manage the onboarding of major assets.
* Assist the Commercial team with exit strategy execution for major asset sales.
* Build and maintain relationships with the investor community, including leasing companies and financial institutions.
* Perform other tasks as directed by the SVP Technical.
Skills & Qualifications
* Extensive experience in a Technical, Asset Management, or Commercial Procurement role within an Airline, MRO, or Leasing company, with a strong understanding of industry quality systems and requirements.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, and the Turbo Fan engine lifecycle.
* In-depth knowledge of the aviation industry, including interactions with OEMs, airlines, and MROs.
* Awareness of market influences and the aviation market landscape.
* Comprehensive understanding of commercial aspects of aviation and their impact on asset valuations and operating costs.
* Proficient in IT, including spreadsheets and standard software like MS Word and Adobe PDF.
* Analytical and detail-oriented with accurate data handling.
* Ability to travel on short notice, valid passport and driving licence required.
* Excellent communication skills and a proactive, independent working style.
* Capable of presenting findings clearly and collaborating effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* Familiarity with EASA, FAA, and CAA regulations, including Part M, Part 145, and airworthiness record-keeping desirable.
