Hours: Full-time, averaging 48 hours per week over a 6-week cycle, including weekends, nights, and bank holidays. Due to the nature of the role, hybrid working will not be possible but part-time and job-share (in line with current shift times) will be considered, subject to business need.
We're MI6, also known as the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). Our mission is to protect the security and economic wellbeing of the UK from overseas threats such as regional instability, terrorism, and cyber-attacks. Working across the globe and in close partnership with MI5 and GCHQ, we help the Government to counter these threats through the provision of secret intelligence. A role in MI6 will see you providing vital support to this work, within a supportive and encouraging environment that puts the emphasis on teamwork.
We'll be opening applications for our Security Officer role at 4pm on Friday 21st February 2025. In the meantime, you can find out more below. If you're from an ethnic minority background, or identify as a woman, we'd be particularly keen to invite you to register your interest for our upcoming events.
As one of our Security Officers, you'll be part of an inclusive, friendly team of colleagues, focused on keeping our buildings secure. Along with meeting and greeting visitors, you'll conduct searches, oversee access to the building, and monitor CCTV. You could be speaking to anyone from members of the public through to government delegates. So, your communication skills, adaptability, and attention to detail will be key.
You don't need to have worked in a security role to apply. However, you'll need experience in a customer service or people-facing role, along with a C/Level 4 in GCSE English Language. You'll also need to be confident using Microsoft Word and Excel and have a good level of physical fitness.
Before you Register
To work for us, you need to be a British citizen or hold dual British nationality. You can read our full eligibility criteria here: Eligibility Criteria.
These roles require the highest security clearance, known as Developed Vetting (DV). It's something everyone in the UK Intelligence Community undertakes. You can find out more about the vetting process here: Vetting Process.
As part of the registration of interest, you'll be invited to several online events prior to the campaign opening. There will be Insight Events where you can find out more about the role, about our inclusive and supportive culture, hear from real staff, and have the chance to ask us questions (please only come to one Insight Event). We are also offering a Skills Event which will provide general tips for completing a job application and preparing for an interview. These events will run on:
1. Insight Events - Wednesday 19th February at 1pm and 5.30pm
2. Skills Event - Friday 21st at 2.30pm
The events will last for approximately 1 hour.
Please note that a registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Anyone who registers their interest and who chooses subsequently to apply for the Security Officer role will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.
All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
