An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maternity Ward Manager to join the Maternity Team at Wirral Women and Children's Hospital. The post is permanent at 37.5 hours per week.
The Maternity Ward Manager will be responsible for leading and operationally running the main Delivery Suite area. The successful candidate will work within the wider management team, also working closely with the multidisciplinary teams across maternity to provide safe, high-quality care.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide effective and extensive leadership, expertise and advice to the Maternity Ward environment and wider Maternity Team whilst ensuring the provision of safe and personalised care in line with best practice, local, regional and national guidance.
2. Work in collaboration with the Obstetric Lead, the Maternity Management team and the Clinical Governance Team to ensure the effective management of risk within the Maternity Ward.
3. To ensure the safe, efficient and effective management of the service within allocated resources.
4. To act as a role model and expert practitioner in order to develop both midwifery and obstetric led services.
5. Accept 24-hour operational responsibility and accountability for the maternity ward and provide managerial and professional support to the maternity service and undertake delegated responsibility in the absence of the Matron.
6. As part of a daily roster, the Delivery Suite manager will hold the maternity bleep and manage unit acuity and staffing across maternity, including supporting all maternity areas with any issues that arise.

Job responsibilities
The post holder should have extensive experience of maternity, Antenatal and Postnatally, able to work clinically with expertise and credibility. Candidates need robust experience post-qualifying, sound knowledge of the Maternity Ward environment, be approachable and knowledgeable of managing emergency situations, experienced in training and mentoring staff as well as having proven leadership skills. Experience of operational management would be desirable.
If you are dedicated to effective leadership, improving standards of care and patient experience as well as being responsible for providing personal, evidence-based and individualised midwifery care, then this could be the post for you.
You should have excellent interpersonal skills and a clear demonstration of the ability to lead a team with passion and enthusiasm. You should have a clear commitment to current developments and initiatives within the Midwifery arena and sound knowledge of current issues in the public health agenda.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.
As this vacancy is within the division of Womens and Childrens, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
