Are you experienced in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) assessment skills? We are looking for an inspirational, driven, and motivated individual who has quality and patient experience at their heart to join our Oncology team at UHD. Do you want to join University Hospitals Dorset at an exciting time of transformation and service expansion? If so, this post could be for you.
We are seeking to appoint an Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (ECP) with experience in SACT assessment, who will work within the SACT ACP team, alongside oncology clinicians, the cancer management team, and other colleagues in the Trust to help develop the Oncology nurse-led SACT service, underpinned by evidence-based practice. The aim is to develop a dedicated team of nurse practitioners who can manage patients on SACT supporting several oncology teams, and possibly 2-3 tumour sites.
We are looking for someone who has non-medical prescribing and history and physical assessment skills to undertake this role. A band 6 development role is available for those who are interested but do not yet have all the qualifications required.
Base Location: Cross-site working – at both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals
Interview Date: TBC
1. Assist with developing and delivering the SACT nurse-led service alongside oncology consultants and nurse practitioners. You will manage 2-3 tumour sites with patients having SACT via various administration routes, working at an enhanced level alongside colleagues. The role will include pre-assessments, holistic assessments, and consenting patients for SACT.
2. Contribute to safe and effective patient care by incorporating the use of non-medical prescribing competencies in relation to oncology patients in accordance with national guidelines, evidence-based practice, and local Trust policies. You will exercise levels of judgement, discretion, and decision-making in the treatment of SACT.
3. Ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising and utilising research to promote best practice in everyday practice as appropriate.
4. Participate in education and training of SACT.
5. Work across organisations to promote cancer care to ensure an integrated approach to care management between localities, organisations, and care agencies.
This is a new service working across both Poole and Bournemouth oncology day units. Initially, the role will focus on developing skills for independently running nurse-led clinics alongside the consultants between core working days Monday - Friday 08:00 - 18:00. Bank holiday clinics are not presently operating but may be a feature in the future. As the role evolves, there may be opportunities to be principal nursing investigators on trials, providing education to both staff and patients, as well as supporting other areas of oncology at both sites.
The SACT ECP will form part of the oncology multi-professional team whose aim is to assess oncology patients for their SACT treatments. The ECP will provide holistic care and advice for patients. You will be a Registered Nurse with, or working towards, a master’s qualification or equivalent experience. Depending on your experience, you may be expected to study towards the enhanced clinical practitioner qualification by undertaking the apprenticeship course. You will need to have a track record of strong collaborative working, be able to build excellent relationships, and can innovate and be a key decision maker.
