The Mortuary department boasts state of the art facilities, run by a highly respected and experienced team who have received multiple awards for their dedication and commitment to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The mortuary provides a post-mortem service to both the Queen Alexandra Hospital and HM Coroner and performs > 1400 post mortems per year. The mortuary has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and holds a full HTA licence. The mortuary is located within a spacious, modern, purpose-built Pathology complex, which opened in August 2007.

Job responsibilities
To act as a deputy for the Mortuary Manager, taking on a lead role for the department in their absence. To assist the Mortuary Manager with Health & Safety, training and education and Quality within the mortuary department. To assist the Mortuary Manager in ensuring the department is fully compliant with HTA & UKAS standards. To supervise Senior APTs, APTs, Trainee APTs and MLAs. To contribute to training and development of all staff. To assist the Mortuary Manager in the provision of a safe and comprehensive mortuary service from receipt to discharge, including all areas of autopsy work. To perform both routine & advanced post-mortem procedures/techniques. To assist pathologists in performing infectious/high risk post-mortems. Prepare deceased patients for viewing and communicate with bereaved families.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience ie level 4 APT diploma.
2. Successful completion of the IOSH course - Managing Safely for Health Care Professionals.
Experience
Essential
3. Broad range of theoretical and practical knowledge in Anatomical Pathological techniques to both Diploma 3 and 4 level or equivalent knowledge plus experience.
4. Experience of implementing HTA and ISO15189 standards.
Desirable
5. Experience of health and safety / training/ quality management procedures.
6. Experience of conducting audits and risk assessments.
