Job Title: Asset Strategy Manager
Location: Falmer
Salary: up to £75,000
This Asset Strategy Manager role is focused on the development of asset strategies that enable Southern Water to meet its service commitments effectively over the long term. It will lead the development of our wastewater asset health capability.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Health & Safety:
1. Prioritize health and safety management.
2. Ensure asset strategies contribute to safe operational environments.
Asset Strategy Development:
3. Set clear targets and develop long-term asset and resilience strategies across the organization.
4. Use systems thinking to understand interrelations between water and wastewater systems.
5. Integrate asset strategies into planning systems to ensure alignment with business plans.
Evidence-Based Decision Making:
6. Drive the use of data, evidence-based decision making, and a solid risk framework.
7. Recommend optimized asset interventions to balance costs, outputs, and resource needs.
8. Develop our asset health predictive models
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
9. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective strategy development and implementation.
10. Communicate long-term strategic goals clearly and gain commitment to a shared vision.
11. Influence stakeholders to develop best practice approaches, embed asset strategies into business processes.
Legal & Regulatory Compliance:
12. Ensure compliance with maintenance requirements, propose action plans for any gaps, and maintain optimal asset reliability.
13. Align asset strategies between water and wastewater in line with risk and resilience frameworks.
Team Management:
14. Lead a small technical team, promoting skills development and collaboration across functions.
Skills & Competencies:
Experience:
15. Extensive asset management and investment planning experience in the water/wastewater or infrastructure sectors.
16. Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, such as OFWAT, and understanding of industry success factors.
Technical Expertise:
17. Experience in whole life cost econometrics, asset deterioration models, and resilience.
18. Strong understanding of asset health, condition monitoring, and modelling tools.
Leadership & Management:
19. Proven leadership in driving change, influencing stakeholders, and aligning teams to a shared vision.
20. Ability to balance business needs, team development, and individual goals.
Communication & Relationship Management:
21. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships across diverse stakeholders.
22. Ability to translate strategic goals into actionable tactics and communicate them effectively.
Numeracy & Analysis:
23. Strong analytical skills, with a high level of numeracy and attention to detail.
24. Ability to present data-driven insights and actionable proposals.
Qualifications & Knowledge:
Technical:
25. Competent in MS Office, SAP, and GIS.
26. Solid understanding of asset management principles and resilience.
27. Familiarity with deterioration modeling and asset condition management.
Risk & Compliance:
28. Good understanding of relevant regulatory and legal obligations in the water industry.
Education & Certifications:
29. Essential: Degree in science, asset management, risk management, engineering, or a related field.
30. Desirable: Professional qualifications in Asset Management or membership in related bodies.
Driving:
31. Full driving license required.
