We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated medical receptionist to join our reception team in a friendly, forward-thinking practice. Candidates will need to be computer literate with excellent communication skills, passionate about working in the NHS and helping to support the local community.
Main duties of the job
The applicant will be required to offer general support to the practice team and patients, with a friendly and welcoming image.
Duties will include assisting patients with queries, booking appointments, signposting to other services where appropriate, contacting patients where required, and admin tasks such as coding letters and summarising records.
You will be required to be immunised in compliance with Green Book and NHS recommendations for your role (unless medically exempt), including immunisations against Covid.
About us
Blakeney Surgery is a small, friendly practice within the Forest of Dean, with a list size of approximately 3200 patients. We are part of G DOC LTD, owned by all the GP Practices in Gloucestershire; the Practices are our shareholders.
We operate on a not-for-profit basis: any profits are redistributed into primary care in Gloucestershire. We run a number of GP practices, as well as some other services for the whole county.
Job responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to:
* Offer general assistance to the Practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
* Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
* Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the Practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the Practice team.
* Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Opening up of the Practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols.
* Maintaining and monitoring the Practice appointments system.
* Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional.
* Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail.
* Taking messages and passing on information.
* Actioning tasks utilizing the clinical system.
* Filing and retrieving paperwork.
* Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with Practice procedures.
* Assisting in the coding of incoming clinical letters, discharge summaries.
* Summarising new patient records, coding as appropriate.
* Filing/Retrieving Lloyd George records for clinical staff after summarising.
* Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers.
* Providing clerical assistance to Practice and Trust staff as required from time to time, including word/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning.
* Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good standard of general education.
* GCSE Mathematics Grade C / 5 or above.
* GCSE English Grade C / 5 or above.
* NVQ in Customer Care.
* CLAIT Qualification.
