Role: Interim Head of Knowledge and Information Management

Location: Exeter, Hybrid working, 2 days per week onsite
We are looking for an experienced leader in Knowledge & Information Management (KIM) to provide strategic direction in a complex, fast-evolving environment. You will ensure that a team of nine specialist practitioners is effectively guided, supported, and empowered to drive excellence in data, knowledge, and information management.
As Head of KIM, you will set the strategic approach, serve as the authoritative voice in your field, and lead the implementation of initiatives to enhance KIM capabilities. You will articulate the value of data, knowledge, and information management within the organisation’s broader enterprise design, aligning with business objectives and influencing decision-making at all levels, including the Board.
In this role, you will lead a team of specialists, directly managing two senior practitioners while advocating best practices. You will engage with key stakeholders to understand needs, explore opportunities, and deliver actionable recommendations that strengthen the organisation’s information management landscape.
Key accountabilities:
* Set Approach and give Direction, and be the Voice of Authority on data, knowledge and information management - to lead implementation plans and inform/take decisions.
* Articulate the data, knowledge and information elements of the enterprise design and why they matter within the context of the organisation.
* Advocate and engage with key stakeholders to understand what is needed and what is possible and provide options and recommendations for agreed business outcomes, driving implementation plans where appropriate.
* Lead a team of 9 specialists, with direct line management of 2 senior specialists.
Key requirements:
* Experience in leading a team of specialists in KIM, in a complex organisation and in an uncertain and fast changing environment.
* Experience developing strategic plans, prioritising and directing team-led activities, building a common direction.
* Experience in influencing and decision making up to Board level in connection with KIM or data governance related initiatives affecting multiple areas of the organisation.
* Evidence of effective collaborative working and communication skills to build and maintain networks and communities, bringing people together to achieve shared common objectives.
* Experience in directing activities to evolve and mature how knowledge, information and data assets are identified and managed, working with others to influence, enable and support business aims.
* Evidence of working autonomously at pace to solve problems and address risks and issues.
