Job Summary Lead the business on all aspects of environmental, net zero and sustainability policy, strategy, and implementation. Reporting to the Group Technical Director you will work with various senior internal stakeholders across the group to influence and challenge the business to lead the industry with our Sustainability agenda, influencing and responding to government legislation, investor requirements, data and reporting, disclosures and sustainability best practice. You will build and enhance Taylor Wimpey’s sustainability image externally through industry partnerships, forums and thought leadership; and drive the company’s internal sustainability “know how”, initiatives and delivery on commitments. Primary Responsibilities Review the existing sustainability footprint and activities of the group and develop strategic, operational and governance framework. In collaboration with other senior stakeholders deliver compliance, efficiency, and innovation to move Taylor Wimpey (TW) towards a market leadership position on Sustainability issues. Develop and shape a compelling narrative for the sustainability story for the organization and ensure external and internal recognition for progress on environmental and social sustainability strategies, initiatives, and performance. Represent the sustainability team internally and externally, influencing corporate strategy/policies/ plans and establishing partnerships whilst cross-fertilising internal competencies with external expertise. Develop and drive forward implementable strategies and initiatives, with input from the business/sites and build an effective implementation plan and oversee its execution. Promote shared learning across all TW sites and regional businesses. Drive best-in-class performance in function by identifying suitable KPIs and conducting thorough internal and external benchmarking. Actively engage and influence through a strong stakeholder engagement program across government agencies, non-governmental organizations and bodies, customers, etc. to shape the debate on the value of innovation and the socio-economic impact of the housebuilding sector. Lead the sustainability programs and discussion at Board and Committee levels. Assist in managing a team of professionals focused on environmental and social metrics tracking, managing environmental sustainability and social responsibility initiatives, and educating internal and external stakeholders on trends, issues and opportunities. Support and develop the regional business units on their local environment and sustainability agenda. Work closely with the Group Technical Director and Director of Design on all aspects of our housetypes that impact long term sustainability factors and play a key role in our “Road to Zero Carbon” activity. Work closely with the Planning Director to ensure our approach to land identification, appraisal and delivery appropriately considers environmental and sustainability factors. Support and advise the Head of Production on strategies and actions required to support our progress towards a zero-waste strategy. Working with Group Central Procurement actively engage with our supply chain and support Central Procurement in influencing key suppliers to support our environmental and sustainability activities and strategies. Lead the group sustainability team. Maintain service best practices, quality assurance of deliverables, team technical standards, training and appraisals. Expand and refine sustainability/social value service offer to reflect market needs, and identify/maintain service offer external partnerships. Own TW’s external positioning: annual ESG report, perspectives, media engagement via engaged partners Manage the external corporate reporting including CDP, NextGeneration, DJSI etc. Ensure that ESG data systems are in place to support reporting, disclosure, corporate targets and business improvement. Manage external relationships with key sustainability bodies including Future Homes Hub, Supply Chain Sustainability School, and Next Generation Ensure sustainability governance structures are in place, including LEAF and the sustainability champions network. Support sustainability communication alongside Sales and Marketing and IR Comms Support the Sustainability Linked Loan Experience, Qualifications And Technical Requirements Previous exposure to a leadership sustainability role, having built and delivered a ESG strategy In depth knowledge of corporate environmental and sustainability best practice Understanding of housebuilding or wider construction industry and its unique environmental challenges Familiar with the most up to date UK legislation on corporate sustainability, ESG and CSR Experience working in a decentralized structure with the ability to influence in a matrix management structure Strong leader with excellent communication and presentation skills Technical and operational background or understanding of the built environment and its supply chain Inclusivity Statement As a proud Disability Confident Employer, Taylor Wimpey is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workforce.
