Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a well-loved local charity dedicated to providing care, advice, and support for everyone in our community living with terminal or life-limiting illness, and their loved ones. We empower people to celebrate life and make the most of the precious time they have for living.
If you have a passion for advancing palliative and end of life care and enjoy being part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, this is the role for you. We would love to hear from consultants who would like to work with us.
Hospice in the Weald is purpose-built with 25 beds, in a glorious rural setting just 30 miles outside London. We have two in-patient wards, one at our Pembury site for people with symptomatic needs and where we can provide day case procedures, and the Cottage Hospice which is Advanced Clinical Practitioner led, for people who have low symptomatic needs in Five Ashes, East Sussex.
We also have a large Hospice Outreach team, Living Well Service, and Counselling and Support services.
Medical staff include a Medical Lead Consultant in Palliative Medicine, GP trainees, Specialist and Specialty Doctors, a Consultant Nurse, and Advanced Clinical Practitioners. We have close links to the nearby Maidstone Oncology Centre and the Tunbridge Wells Hospital where our Specialist doctors do two sessions per week.
The post will be based at Hospice in the Weald, Tunbridge Wells, with sessions at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, working alongside the current Hospice team and the Consultant in Palliative Medicine at the Trust, supported by junior staff and the full multidisciplinary team including administrative support.
The overall clinical workload will be shared in a way that is flexible and best fits the skills and experience of the successful candidate as well as matching their working pattern.
The successful applicant will want to actively participate in a broad range of teaching activities.
At Hospice in the Weald, we pride ourselves in being innovative and research-led. Active involvement with audit and research will also be encouraged, seeking opportunities to expand the Hospice’s research activity along with Kent and Medway Palliative Care Research Group and the University of Kent.
The successful candidate should have completed Specialist Training and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC or have a CCST date within 6 months of the date of interview or be awaiting the outcome of CESR.
The salary will be based on the current NHS Consultant pay scale.
Benefits include free parking and a generous holiday allowance with the ability to buy and sell additional holiday. You can also transfer your existing NHS pension. You can view more information about our range of benefits here.
