The post will be tailored to the special interests of the successful candidate with training designed to complement the progress in the relevant sub-specialty. It is expected the candidate will have already undertaken, and would be ideal for a post CCT fellowship. Dependent on the successful candidate's experience, the main responsibility will be to assist in providing the non-invasive cardiology service, in particular the stress echocardiography and transoesophageal echo service. The post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision of non-invasive clinical activity of inpatients and outpatients, including stress echocardiography, echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, exercise testing and open access electrocardiography. The post is suitable for cardiologists who have completed or are nearing the end of their training. Opportunities will be made available for management, audit and research according to the skills and needs of the successful candidate. Main duties of the job The main responsibility will be to assist in providing the non-invasive cardiology service, but in particular the stress echocardiography and transoesophageal echo service. The post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision of non-invasive clinical activity of inpatients and outpatients, including stress echocardiography, echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, exercise testing and open access electrocardiography. They will be expected to be involved in stress echocardiography and will be trained appropriately, if necessary. It is expected that the doctor will, eventually, perform these procedures independently. If desired, there will be opportunities for further training in higher level echocardiography and the possibility of training in other imaging modalities, particularly cardiac CT. They will be expected to provide general cardiology/medical supervision of the outpatient clinic and may be asked to give a cardiology opinion for non-cardiac inpatients. The doctor should have significant training in, and will be expected to perform, transthoracic echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography with a view to gaining BSE or European accreditation in Transoesophageal echocardiography (if not already accredited).
