Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby, and West Lancashire. Surgical care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital.
The post holder will be employed and supported by the Surgical Division but be based within Ormskirk Hospital. The post holder will have undertaken, or already be working towards a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and have or be in the process of developing competencies specific for the role to enable them to work independently and autonomously in clinical practice.
Main duties of the job
The post is based at Ormskirk Hospital and will join the existing team of ACPs supported by the Surgical Clinical Teams. The post holder will:
* Have advanced knowledge of Clinical Care in an acute setting.
* Support any resuscitation emergency response on site.
* Function as a competent clinical practitioner assessing and managing complex patients and their families as an integral part of the team.
* Develop locally agreed advanced skills in response to service and clinical demand.
* Have successfully completed a non-medical prescribing course and demonstrate ability to apply principles of therapeutics and safe prescribing.
* Work as part of the Surgical Division to provide site clinical cover for patients as part of the appropriate rota within Surgery, which may include rotation to nights and seven-day working.
* Undertake transfers of selected complex patients between hospital departments for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
* Initiate and participate in audit and research projects relevant to the specialty.
* Be accountable for actions and act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct/ Health Care Professionals Council Code of Conduct.
* Act in accordance with the local Trust and statutory guidelines and policies.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered health professional with legal and accountable responsibilities for non-medical prescribing.
* First level registered nurse/professional UK registration.
* First Degree (or equivalent experience).
* Post registration course in specialty.
* Immediate Life Support.
* Teaching qualification (C&G730, CertEd, PGCE or equivalent).
* Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice.
Knowledge
* Significant demonstrable experience of working in an acute care setting, some of this must include working at a senior level managing and leading teams.
* Ability to demonstrate specialist expertise underpinned by theory through CPD.
* Excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
* Evidence of involvement in the development of programs of care, protocols, and guidelines.
* Knowledge of Clinical risk management and Governance.
Skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrating negotiation and persuasion skills.
* Ability to manage demanding and challenging workload.
* Evidence of both theoretical and practical skills and competency in Care Management within the specialty.
* Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
* Ability to make effective decisions.
* Ability to build rapport with colleagues, patients, and relatives.
* Experience of MDT working.
* Strong leadership and team building skills.
* Ability to use own initiative.
* Ability to work autonomously or within a team.
* Enthusiastic, dynamic, self-motivated.
* Confident with IT.
Other
* Occasional requirement to exert moderate physical effort for short periods during a given time when moving and transferring patients using hoists and other lifting aids.
* Required to move patients on trolleys and in wheelchairs.
