Job Description
Barlink is a multiple occupancy residence with adults with multiple profound learning disabilities and complex and challenging needs. All of the Individuals live full and active lives in the community regularly attending activities such as horse riding, hydro pool, café outings and cinema trips.
Responsibilities
1. Due to the level of care required for the Individuals, staff must be comfortable delivering personal care.
2. Due to the individuals' learning disabilities, this may require you to use moving and handling skills and equipment; training will be provided, but a knowledge of these skills would be beneficial.
3. Help provide direct support to Individuals who display behaviour that causes concern to enable them to participate in a wide range of therapeutic activities such as hydro pool and rebound.
4. To uphold social work values and to ensure good working practice, including understanding and awareness of health and safety.
5. Promoting the independence and helping to develop the skills of Individuals is important as we are always helping them achieve their goals to ensure positive life experiences.
6. It is important that staff work positively with other agencies, parents, carers, and other services as they can play a large part in the care of the individuals. For the Individuals at Barlink, their families play a very active role in their lives.
7. You may be given the opportunity to help develop and contribute to the maintenance of Individual records and support plans and act as a Keyworker when required.
8. Although the house is shared, it is still very much a home, so it is important to support the Individual to maintain a clean living environment appropriate to meet each individual's needs.
9. You are regularly given the opportunity to participate in regular and ongoing training relevant to the needs of the Individuals.
The Individual
1. Insight into issues in relation to working with Children and Adults with complex needs who exhibit behaviour that causes concern.
2. Willingness to undertake SVQ level 2 (Adults), SVQ level 3 (CYP) & HNC, and further training as required.
3. Ability to register with the SSSC.
4. Ability to use physical interventions when required.
5. Good Practical Skills.
6. Good Observational Skills.
7. Flexibility, Empathy and Approachability.
8. Ability to work as part of a team.
9. Ability to remain calm in a crisis.
10. Ability to reflect on your own practice.
11. To understand your own feelings about managing behaviour which causes concern.

13. Ability to form positive relationships with service users, colleagues, parents, and other professionals.
14. Sensitivity and understanding of discrimination and health and well-being issues.
15. Flexible approach to work patterns and bases and ability to work within a shift-based rota system.

17. Ability to work effectively as part of the support team and in multi-disciplinary settings.
18. Ability to use own initiative and to be self-motivated.
19. The ability to engage service users in activities and participation within their home and in the local community.

22. Ability to carry out moving and handling duties in line with health and safety regulation and risk assessment.
23. Ability to support service users with physical activities such as walking, swimming, hydro therapy, etc.
