I am currently working with a leading specialist resolution provider of electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies within rolling stock and varying other sectors. They are on the lookout for x2 Lead Electronics Engineers to join a tight-knit team of engineers who specialize in managing the issues of obsolescence, bringing an innovative approach to failure analysis and problem resolution.
You will be joining a team of like-minded engineers who have developed their capabilities in root cause analysis, fault finding, fit and function replacements, and reverse engineering. With a strong leadership team, it's an exciting time to join and be part of their growth journey into wider sectors.
Key responsibilities for this Lead Electronics Engineer role:
1. Working autonomously as well as part of a team, with the ability to effectively allocate time and resources to projects, working to strict deadlines.
2. Effectively engage and liaise directly with customers and clients - gathering project requirements, providing realistic and detailed assessments of practicality, and managing expectations throughout.
3. Supervise and delegate to junior engineers and apprentices where appropriate.
4. Provide technical input to design phases.
5. Be involved in research and development processes with the wider team.
6. Ensuring all electronic systems comply with national and international rail industry standards, such as ISO, EN standards, or other safety standards.
7. Creating detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and system specifications for the electronics systems.
8. Contribute to process improvements for the development and maintenance of rolling stock electronics.
Essential skills for this Lead Electronics Engineer role:
1. Appreciation of a "safety culture": Able to work safely with power/machine tools, high voltages, and high power plant, an ability to safely supervise others whilst demonstrating best practice, leading by example.
2. Understanding and practical experience of risk assessment methods.
3. Ability to liaise with customers, effectively gathering project requirements, giving realistic assessments of practicality, managing expectations, and deconflicting competing demands.
4. Familiarity with high-speed digital layout methods.
5. Practical workshop/lab skills; ability to solder through-hole/SMD components, design/assemble wiring harnesses, crimp connectors, and machine enclosures.
6. Familiarity with diagnosis and repair of old and/or obsolete equipment.
Desirable technical skills for this Lead Electronics Engineer role:
1. Ability to effectively organize complex hardware and/or firmware projects, managing complexity without sacrificing functionality or performance.
2. Ability to write well-structured and documented code in C, C++, and/or Python.
3. Experience with embedded firmware development for 8 and/or 32-bit targets (PIC, AVR, ARM, TMS320).
4. Experience developing control systems (H infinity, LQR etc.).
5. Experience with PCB layout using CAD design tools (e.g. KICAD).
6. Experience with thermal, dynamic, and control system modeling using Matlab or Simulink.
7. Experience developing firmware to documented quality standards (MISRA etc).
8. Familiarity with in-system debugging tools (JTAG, SWD etc.).
9. Ability to simulate and optimize analogue and power supply systems using SPICE simulation package.
10. Experience developing hardware subject to emissions standards, constrained thermal environment, water/moisture ingress protection etc.
11. Experience with high voltage power electronics, preferably for use in rail applications (traction inverters, static frequency converters etc.).
12. Experience maintaining and/or designing/developing high reliability or mission critical hardware (e.g. for medical, defence, nuclear, or aerospace applications).
Package on offer for this Lead Electronics Engineer:
1. Salary up to £40,000 DOE
2. Company Pension
3. 150 hours annual leave, plus BH's & Christmas close down
4. Fantastic progression opportunities
