We are looking for two compassionate and experienced specialist teachers to join our dynamic team in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs. These roles will be based in two separate classes - one for primary-aged students and one for secondary-aged students, each offering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Role 1: Primary ASD Class Teacher. We are seeking a skilled teacher to work with 8 primary-aged students (Year 2 to 6), all with an ASD diagnosis and communication and language difficulties. The students work well below their chronological ages, with most being non-verbal. Some students may present themselves with challenging behaviours, and it is essential to have experience in managing these needs in a calm and constructive manner.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver tailored lessons that meet the needs of all students, using appropriate strategies to support learning.
* Implement communication techniques, including the SCERTS framework, to enhance interaction and engagement.
* Utilise the Little Wandle phonics scheme to support literacy development.
* Provide a nurturing and structured environment that allows pupils to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
* Work closely with a team of support staff to deliver interventions and ensure all students can access the curriculum.
Role 2: Secondary ASD Class Teacher. We are seeking a dedicated teacher for our secondary-aged students (Year 7 to 10) with ASD and complex needs. The class has 9 pupils, including two non-verbal students. Despite being in a secondary setting, the pupils' cognitive abilities are below their chronological ages, and this role requires an individual with experience in adapting primary-level approaches for secondary-aged children.
Key Responsibilities:
* Create and deliver engaging lessons that are adapted to the cognitive and developmental needs of the students.
* Use the SCERTS framework to support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation.
* Implement the Little Wandle phonics scheme and other literacy strategies to support reading development.
* Develop positive relationships with students and manage challenging behaviours in a supportive and consistent manner.
* Work collaboratively with the support team to ensure the students' individual needs are met, and their progress is continually assessed.
Essential Requirements for Both Roles:
* Significant experience of working with students with ASD and complex needs within a specialist educational setting.
* A strong understanding of how to engage non-verbal students and those with communication difficulties.
* Experience using SCERTS and Little Wandle phonics scheme (or similar).
* The ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility in teaching approaches to suit individual learning styles.
* Resilience, empathy, and a commitment to providing the best outcomes for students with complex needs.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
Why Join Us?
* Be part of a dedicated and supportive team committed to making a difference in the lives of children with complex needs.
* Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career growth.
