As a key member of the Net Zero Steering Group (NZSG), youll help shape and support the development of our wider Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategy with a particular focus on enhancing our carbon reporting, improving foot printing accuracy, and driving measurable carbon reductions across our operations. You'll work across our business to ensure full compliance with sustainability and carbon reporting requirements, while enhancing our annual KPIs and metrics for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (CFDs). From collaborating with Net Zero working groups to strengthening the quality of our data collection and emission factor tracking, your work will be essential in turning our environmental targets into tangible, trackable progress. Working as a Sustainability Officer you will be involved in: Developing and Implementing Sustainability Strategies:Support the Energy Manager and Net Zero Steering Group (NZSG) in creating and executing sustainability strategies, identifying opportunities for carbon reduction and continuous improvement across the organisation. Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting:Collect, analyse, and interpret data on environmental impact, carbon emissions (all scopes), and resource use. Support sustainability reporting, including Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (CFDs), ESOS, SECR, and emerging frameworks such as CSRD, TNFD, EUDR, and CSDDD. Develop product carbon footprints (PCFs) and use data analytics tools to track emissions and reduction progress. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to promote sustainability initiatives. Support awareness campaigns and communicate sustainability goals and progress across the business and to wider stakeholders, including customers, clients, and the community. Regulatory Compliance:Help ensure compliance with environmental legislation, standards, and reporting schemes. Stay up to date with evolving regulatory requirements and assist working groups in developing responses to new sustainability obligations. Education & Culture Building:Assist in delivering training and educational programmes to foster a culture of sustainability. Encourage behavioural change and employee engagement to support the organisations Net Zero roadmap. Project Support & Delivery:Support the successful delivery of sustainability projects from conception to completion, monitoring progress, timelines, and budgets. Contribute to the development of science-based targets and near-term carbon reduction milestones. Innovation & Research: Stay informed of emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and innovations. Conduct research to identify and support the implementation of new sustainable practices across the organisation. Skills for Success Joining us as a Sustainability Officer youll need to have: HND or equivalent experience in engineering, sustainability, environmental services, or a related field. GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent). Proven experience in analytical analysis and reporting, preferably within sustainability, construction, or retail sectors. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. Experience using data analytics tools. Full UK driving licence with access to a car and ability to travel across the province. The Attributes youll need include: Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills. Able to prioritise tasks, work independently, and take ownership of issues. Team-oriented with the ability to work to deadlines. Confident in engaging with internal and external stakeholders through working groups and forums. Creative, solutions-focused, and committed to continuous improvement and sustainability goals. It is desirable if you have: Degree in engineering, sustainability, environmental services or related field. Membership of an appropriate professional body. E.g. IEMA & ISSP. Relevant experience in sustainability or a related area, such as environmental compliance, retail data analytics etc. Experience of monitoring and reporting on of carbon emissions across all scopes and emission categories. Experience in sustainability with respect to delivering climate actions road maps and carbon reduction initiatives. Knowledge of government carbon reporting schemes and future environmental targets including legislation and regulations associated with energy and emissions. This is a full-time position working 36.5 hours per week. Working hours will be 8:45am-4:45pm Monday to Thursday and 8:45am-3:45pm Friday. Hybrid working arrangement available.
