My client's infrastructure team specializes in providing sustainable development infrastructure solutions to a mix of commercial, retail, industrial, energy, education, and residential sector clients in Scotland. The team also works closely with other disciplines and offices to provide integrated solutions on larger multidisciplinary projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in one of the UK’s leading private Engineering Consultancies working on infrastructure schemes throughout the UK. They currently have a varied workload in both the private and public sector ranging from large scale masterplans in the retail sector to education, research, scientific, and hospitality schemes of varying scales, from pre-planning through to construction.
You can expect to be active on a number of projects and with a number of clients at any given time. You will need to show experience in drainage, roads, and external works for these types of projects, with an emphasis on Sustainable Urban Drainage being essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Preparation of site appraisals
2. Undertake feasibility and pre-planning assessments of engineering infrastructure
3. Peer review of documents, designs, and drawings completed by other team members to ensure consistent high quality and compliance with design standards, industry best practice, contractual obligations, and client expectations
4. Liaison with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders
5. Attendance at design meetings, site meetings, and undertaking site inspections
6. Ensure that all work is carried out in full compliance with the Company’s Quality Management System
7. Provide technical guidance, support, and training to junior colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and development of others
8. To work in both supervised and unsupervised environments ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and carried out in accordance within agreed timescales and within agreed budgets
9. Report to appropriate team leader on technical issues associated with project work
10. To be able to work in close collaboration with team members and other disciplines and have an appreciation of their role
11. Production of CAD and 3D modeling in conjunction with other Project Engineers / Technicians
12. Quality Control for CAD and 3D modeling production
13. Outputs to company CAD standards as well as comply with project and BIM protocols
14. Undertaking other tasks as delegated by Project Engineers/Managers
15. To adhere to the company Health and Safety Policy
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
1. BSc, BEng, or MEng Degree in Civil Engineering + 5 years post-graduate experience and/or HND or HNC in Civil Engineering + 8 years experience
2. EngTech membership of an appropriate professional body (desirable) i.e., Institution of Civil Engineers or the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation
3. Competent in the use of AutoCAD and preferably Autodesk Civils 3D and InfoWorks or alternatively PDS and Causeway Flow / Microdrainage
4. Good knowledge of infrastructure design at concept, feasibility, and construction level
5. Good knowledge of relevant policy and design standards (e.g., DMRB, Sewers for Scotland, CIRIA SuDS Manual, SCOTS’ Roads Development Guide)
6. Experience in the design of adopted drainage and highways, with a working knowledge of UK design standards
7. Ability to balance several projects and meet project timetables
8. Excellent communication skills, particularly in technical written English
9. Flexible and enthusiastic approach to working within a team structure
10. Confidence and ability to take responsibility for work on large projects
11. Proven reporting, written and verbal communication skills
12. Full clean driving license
